Dr. G’s November Flute Horoscopes. By Rachel Taylor Geier

Welcome to November 2017! It is officially Scorpio Season. For most of this month the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus are all highlighting the sign of Scorpio. The New Moon falling on November 18th in the sign of Scorpio is also extending the spotlight on this trifecta well into December. This means that there will be a major focus on an area of your life (and flute playing) that is expanding and becoming increasingly more creative. Of course, each sign will experience something different. Wherever Scorpio falls in your sign, it will demand your attention for the next several weeks. Be careful! When Jupiter and Venus align there is also a tendency to overindulge. Try to remain grounded this month!

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You are officially the star of the zodiac this month. You usually are a bit more popular at this time of year as the Sun beams down on your sign for the first 3 weeks of the month, however 2017 ushers in 2 other mega fans to your entourage: Jupiter and Venus. This trifecta (Sun, Jupiter, Venus) is in your 1st house of who you are and your visibility in the world. This is the perfect time to host a solo recital. You are the diva and everybody is looking at you and loving your creative spirit. The spotlight is not just on you for the first 3 week but also extends into next month. 8 weeks of being the most popular flutist in town! This is your Beyoncé moment. Enjoy it! Be careful not to go overboard or you may alienate others. Be humble and gracious like a true Scorpio. Mercury will be moving into Sagittarius on November 5th turning your attention to the 2nd house of income and what you value in the world. You are thinking about how to turn your newfound popularity into a source of income. Try marketing your solo recital to middle schools, high schools, or other groups of potential new flute students. Finally, Mars will remain in Libra in your 12th house of behind the scenes activities. You are burning the midnight oil working on a top-secret project. A new CD? A publication? Another performance? An audition? Perhaps this is a project that will eventually increase your income through passive earnings. Mars does not really like being in the 12th house, so try to enjoy the quiet work time without feeling stuck or confined. You are working on something very special.

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 7th house of relationships. You might hear from an old friend or colleague on this day or have new, visionary, creative ideas. Collaborate and play some duets together!

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 1st house of visibility and who you are. This is the best day of the month to host a solo recital. Perform your heart out on this day! You will receive a standing ovation.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

You will be focused on giving back to others during the month of November. For the first 3 weeks of the month, the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus will all be in your 12th house of behind the scenes activities, spiritual studies, and charity. It seems like an oxymoron for the Sun to be shining in an area of secrets and withdrawing into the shadows, however Jupiter in this area of your chart means that you will be focusing on bigger picture issues, supported by social Venus who wants to see goodwill towards others. You will be ushering in some holiday cheer by hosting volunteer performances at local schools and retirement homes. You may encourage recital attendees to donate clothes and non-perishables to local food banks prior to a group performance. The solitude of the practice room will give you some peace of mind this month. Create a Zen practice environment by adding candles, softer lighting, or a simple water fountain. On November 5th Mercury will be moving into Sagittarius in your 1st house of YOU. You will be thinking about who you are as a performer and where you want to go with your career. Experiment playing different styles of music until you find one that really seems to speak to you. Maybe you are secretly a Jazz flutist and just don’t know it yet! Finally, Mars will be in your 11th house of group activities encouraging you to participate in group performances with your local band or orchestra. Enjoy playing as part of a larger group but meditate on your own style during non-rehearsal times.

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 6th house of day-to-day job responsibilities. With all of the soul-searching you will be doing this month, you might begin to examine your day job and how meaningful it is to your life. Does it support your ambitions or distract from what you truly care about? The Sun and Neptune are also in your 12th house on this day, encouraging you to help others in your daily life. Mentor younger flute students!

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 12th house, extending that spotlight on philanthropy and behind the scenes projects. Lock yourself in the practice room on this day and play music that speaks to your heart.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Capricorns will find their Sun, Jupiter, and Venus chilling out in the 11th house of group activities, friendships, long-range plans, and goals and expectations. Your social circle will expand, and you will be a party animal this month. This is a great time to make new friends and creative connections. Is there a flute conference in your area? A masterclass you can perform at or even just attend as an auditor. Go for it! This is your time to make connections with other musicians that will help propel your career forward. These new friends and colleagues will help you reevaluate your goals. Where would you like to take your flute playing in the next 5 or 10 years? Would you like to teach, perform or both? This is a great time to begin to construct your short term and longer-range goals. Chat with other artists who have been there, done that. Find a way to accomplish all of the things on your bucket list. As Mars is still in your 10th house of careers, you will be on fire about all of your new business ideas and projects (which could quite possibly be inspired by your 11th house soul searching), but be careful not to be too pushy with your ideas (Mars can sometimes get carried away with ambition). Finally, Mercury will move into your 12th house on November 5th which has you keeping a lot of your opinions to yourself (you don’t really want to tell your stand partner they are sharp or flat or playing behind the beat – you just want to play and have a good time).

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 5th house of love, children, and creative projects. Venus is opposing Uranus on this day so you may hear from an old friend or colleague out of the blue. Share your thoughts on your next recital or plans to perform a new piece of music. They might want to collab and help you create a wonderful, inspiring performance.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 11th house of friendships, group activities, and long-range plans. Venture out into the world on this day. Attend a party or a social gathering and network with other musicians. You might form a very important connection to another musician on this day.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

November begins with the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus all in your 10th house of careers, leadership, and professional status. You are on fire about your career right now and are a bit more visible to the outside world. Did you recently host a wildly successful recital or give a spectacular masterclass performance? Others are very impressed with you right now. Like many of the signs this month, you will be a social butterfly but all you want to talk about is your career direction. You are ready to make things happen in a big way. Mercury will be supporting your ambitions as it will be setting up camp in your 11th house on November 5th helping you to focus your long-range goals and ambitions. You want to further your music-making career and are gathering the tools to get from where you are now to where you would like to be. With Venus in your career sector, you might even find a colleague to discuss these matters with who will offer some great advice. Listen to them. Finally, Mars will be in Libra in your 9th house for all of November. The 9th house is the realm of higher education, learning, and your personal beliefs. As you focus on your career, you will begin to research new ideas or even sign up for a class on a new technique or course of study. Alexander Technique lessons, anyone?

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 4th house of home and real estate. You will want to be at home with your family on this day. Take a break from dissecting your flute playing and listen to some wonderful music with your loved ones. Download and watch an opera from Netflix or YouTube and teach your family why the music is meaningful to the plot.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 10th house. This is your workaholic day. Lock yourself in your practice room playing all of the music in your collection. Start working on your short term and long-range career goals. Research how to achieve all of your flute playing goals. Record yourself and listen to your recordings critically. How can you make things tighter, or more precise? Ask yourself where you want to take your flute playing.

Pieces (February 19-March 20)

The Sun, Jupiter, and Venus are all in your 9th house of higher education, beliefs, and traveling for the first 3 weeks of November. You are on a mission to learn more about the flute this month (or maybe just music in general). Sign up for a course at the local community college or attend as many masterclasses as you can find in your surrounding area. Read blogs and books about flute playing (The Flute by James Galway is a classic) and attend any free recitals or guest lectures at your nearest school of music. You may even be traveling to conferences this month and learning new techniques to use in your studios. Take advantage of this time and learn everything. Travel to new places and learn how they experience music and why it is different from the way you have been taught to experience music. How can you incorporate new ideas into your own practices? As you begin to learn new skills, Mercury in your 10th house of careers will be encouraging you to discuss these new techniques with others (perhaps by hosting lectures) and how they may fit into your current music-making career. Finally, Mars in your 8th house for most of November will have you passionate to take a business trip. Do you have an audition coming up?

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 3rd house of communication. You will be giving a speech somewhere on this day that will hold great personal meaning for you. This doesn’t have to be on a stage or in front of a large audience. This could simply be a conversation that you will have with one of your students about why music is important and why the flute inspires you. Share these ideas with others. They will be just as meaningful to them as they are to you.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 9th house of higher education, beliefs, and travel. Go on a trip to a lecture, masterclass, concert, opera, or any other activity that will help you discover new ideas about music that you can translate to your flute playing. This is a day to expand on what you already understand about music.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Your November trifecta in Scorpio is happening in your 8th house of financial obligations, settlements, credit, mortgage, and inheritance. Something financial is expanding due to the influence of Jupiter (more money or credit perhaps?) and daring you to form pleasurable relationships or bring out your creative side with the addition of Venus. You may be purchasing a new instrument at this time and could be test-driving a number of very exquisite flutes that may be a bit out of your price range (be careful – when Jupiter and Venus get together they can often lead you to indulge a bit more than usual). Renegotiate any payment plans or loans you are trying to obtain to afford your dream instrument. You may find that your bottom line is not as fixed as you thought it was and may very well find that win-win situation to help you pay the final price tag. It will be yours. Oh yes. It will be yours. As you are strutting your stuff trying out new instruments, you will be the belle of the ball. Everybody will want to know what model you are playing, how much it costs, which one you like the best, and how each instrument plays. Go ahead! Socialize about your new investment. You will be very interested in the input of others. On November 5th, Mercury, planet of communications and learning, is going into your 9th house of travel, education, and professional development. You are beginning to think about conferences, courses, or masterclasses you would like to attend. With Mars falling in Libra in your 7th house of relationships though, be careful not to be overly competitive with others when putting your prospectus or audition CD together. Focus instead on forming new friendships based on common flute playing interests.

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 2nd house of income joined with the Sun and Neptune in your 8th house of financial obligations. You know you are going to have to make more money in your job (or save more money on a more regular basis) to pay your monthly instrument payment, but you are ready and the reward is well worth the small financial sacrifices you must make.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 8th house. You are still going to be distracted by your financial obligations for the next 4 weeks. Remember to iron out all of those details regarding loans or payment plans for your new instrument. You are a bit nervous about this investment but know that it is the right choice for your music making career.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

The Sun, Jupiter, and Venus will be in Scorpio in your 7th house of relationships for the first 3 weeks of the month, making you one of the most popular signs of the zodiac this month. This is particularly good if you have negotiations with potential concert venues or orchestral contracts to sign. You may also be forming partnerships with other musicians to host local chamber groups. These partnerships will be particularly successful and you will be very good at finding musicians to work with who not only enjoy what they do but genuinely love making music with others. The holidays are around the corner and this is a great time to set up holiday concerts with new groups throughout your communities. Be careful not to overbook yourself. Jupiter and Venus may sometimes lead you to over-socialize and, in doing so, you may agree to more concerts than your schedule allows. Mercury will be entering Sagittarius on November 5th in your 8th house of financial obligations, taxes, and transformation, shifting your focus to your money (that party costs HOW much?). You could also be doing a bit of soul searching and are interested in pursuing a different type of career path. Perhaps you are a performer who is longing to be a teacher or vice-versa. Finally, Mars will be in your 6th house of daily routine and work obligations all month making you a bit more passionate about the practice room or group rehearsals. Be careful not to get too frustrated with other musicians who are not putting in the practice time that you are this month. They will come around.

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 1st house of visibility and who you are in the world. You are the center of attention on this day! Live it up. Go out to the mall, open your flute case, and play all 12 Telemann Fantasies. You will have an adoring crowd and will love soaking in the applause from a constant audience.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 7th house of relationships. You will make a new friend today that will really inspire you. Cultivate this relationship and collaborate on inspiring new projects. This connection will be very important for your future career.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Your daily workload is being highlighted for the first 3 weeks of the month as the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus are all congregated in your 6th house of daily routine and work obligations. Your workload is literally expanding but you are also going out of your way to be helpful and friendly to your colleagues. If you perform with a band or orchestra, you may be asked to perform important parts on a number of pieces or will be given important solos to perform at your next concert. As you woodshed and perfect these passages, you will also be imparting good, encouraging advice to the rest of your section who will appreciate your tips and tricks. Mercury will be moving into your 7th house of relationships on November 5th helping you to talk about things that are important to you and resolve any disagreements you may have with other musicians. This is a great time to bond with your fellow flutists! Host a flute section get together. A wine and cheese night where you simply talk about music could be a great experience for everyone. Finally, Mars in Libra in your 5th house will have you wanting to get out and play some football or, if you are not athletically inclined, attend fun parities or concerts. You want to have fun at this time and why not! The holidays are almost here!

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 12th house of the shadow sector. You want to be alone on this day, possibly locked in a practice room. There is nothing wrong with that! Have a nice date with Dr. Beat and woodshed to your heart’s content.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 6th house of daily routine and work obligations. You will be asked to play in a bunch of concerts on this day and will be loving it. Just be careful not to overbook yourself and remember to be humble.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

In November, Cancers “don’t want nothing but a good time” (as the song goes). This is because the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus are all partying in the sign of Scorpio for most of the month. The 5th house is the realm of recreational activities, children (or acting like a child), gambling, and fun. This is a great month for parties, vacations, and playful creative projects. You are probably developing a great lesson activity that speaks to your younger students to keep them engaged in learning about the flute (without having to resort to assigning “Let it Go” for the millionth time). Kids love to be creative – let them improvise! Develop some fun improvisational games or assign them fun music that speaks to their interests (A new Star Wars movie is coming out – Go ahead and find a few tunes from previous Star Wars movies to teach younger students triplet figures, high register fingerings, and syncopations). Mercury will be moving into your 6th house on November 5th putting your attention on daily work responsibilities. You may be changing jobs or learning new job skills. Maybe you are simply working on your beatboxing skills or learning to conduct. Whatever it is, you are seeking to spice up your day-to-day with something new. Finally, Mars will be in Libra this month in your 4th house of home and real estate. You are working on a project in your home. Renovating a home studio, perhaps?

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 11th house of friendships, groups, and social activities. This is coupled with Venus in opposition to Uranus. You may run into an old friend or colleague on this day at a social function or group rehearsal. Reconnect with this individual! They may want to collaborate on an exciting, FUN new project.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 5th house. Have fun on this day! Perform or practice only music that makes you happy. If it is boring or intense, save it for the next day. Improvise. Play some pop tunes. It’s okay to act like a child on this day.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Leos are all about hanging out at home with their families this month. The Sun, Jupiter, and Venus are all in the 4th house of home and real estate for the first 3 weeks of the month. This may lead you to host a studio masterclass or mini recital in your home or you may simply be entertaining local musicians at a home holiday party. It could even be as simple as hosting flute choir rehearsals or orchestral sectionals in your garage. Whatever the occasion, you are in the mood to show off your home. On November 5th, Mercury will be moving into Sagittarius in your 5th house of fun, children, games, and playfulness. You will be enjoying the company of young people. This is a great time to host a masterclass at a middle school or high school. The kids will dig your style and you might even learn a thing or two from them in return. Finally, Mars will be in Libra in your 3rd house of learning and communications. This is a great time to sell something. Trying to attract more students to your home studio? Use that Mars energy during your school sectionals to advertise your home studio. You may even want to create some sort of incentive for new students (first lesson free or at a reduced price?).

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 10th house of career matters or reputation. This is supported by the Sun in a good angle to Neptune. You are wanting to be charitable as part of your career. Put together a food drive for your next group performance, donating all proceeds to the nearest food bank. Tis the season for giving!

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 4th house of home and real estate. This is a great day to host a masterclass for your students in your home. It does not need to be elaborate – solo works, duets, and perhaps a group piece to sight read. Everyone will have a good time and enjoy making music in a comfortable environment.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

You are chatting it up this month, Virgo! For the first 3 weeks of the month, the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus will all be in your 3rd house of communication, learning, traveling, everyday surroundings, and neighbors. You’ve got a lot to say and really want to share it with the world. Have you ever considered starting a flute blog? This is a great platform for sharing your ideas with a large, global audience. Perhaps you have been working on an article, lecture, or a book. This is a really great time to get the word out about all of these projects. On November 5th, Mercury will be moving into Sagittarius in your 4th house of home and real estate. You could be thinking about a side gig in real estate (part time flute rock star, part time real estate mogul?). Of course, this may just indicate that you are spending time with your neighbors or siblings. Finally, Mars will be in Libra in your 2nd house of income. You are passionate about making money at this time. You finally have a clear idea of what you want financially and have the ambition this month to go after it. Go after that teaching job or that orchestra gig! You will have the drive this month to turn dreams into reality.

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 9th house of long distance travel, higher education, and “the world.” You want to learn something new! With the Sun in the 3rd house at an excellent angle to Neptune, you will likely attend a performance and be suddenly struck by an inspirational thought or idea that will change your music career for the better. Follow your gut!

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 3rd house of communications and every day surroundings. This is a great day to host a lecture or record a YouTube video. Do you have a YouTube channel yet? This is a good day to start one. Fire up that camera!

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Your mind is on the money and the money is on your mind this month, Libra! The Sun, Jupiter, and Venus are all in your 2nd house of income and what you value in life. You are laying down the plastic this month and buying a lot of stuff. As it relates to flute playing, you may be purchasing new music, accessories, a new headjoint, or a FluterScooter Bag (who could blame you?! FluterScooter Bags are gorgeous!). In between your retail therapy, you will also be forming relationships that help bring in more income. Are you collaborating on a new CD project? Maybe you are forming a group to perform at holiday parties around town in the upcoming months. This is a great time to promote goodwill for all while also creating some sort of additional income stream. Mercury will be moving into Sagittarius in your 3rd house of communications on November 5th encouraging you to travel to local music conferences while making important networking connections with like-minded musicians. Finally, Mars will be in Libra in your 1st house of visibility and who you are in the world. You will be more assertive about who you are as a musician and taking the lead on new projects (A new CD? A book you may writing? A new piece you may be working on?). You are wanting to launch some of these projects and advertising them to other musicians around your community. Now is the time.

Full Moon – November 3rd in Taurus in your 8th house of financial obligations, loans, and credit. This is supported by the Sun in your 2nd house of income in good aspect to Neptune. You will have visionary business ideas and are now investigating how to financially turn your dreams into reality. Buy that flute! Go back to school. Take that journey to Europe to attend a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic. This Full Moon will help you to find the funding to do what you need to do.

New Moon – November 18th in Scorpio in your 2nd house of income. Show you the money! It is time to get serious about increasing your income. Find clever ways to attract more students to your studio. Develop a great idea for a CD project or a book. Teach Skype lessons. This is a great day to research and develop new ways to earn streams of passive income.

Happy November!
