Dr. G’s November Flute Horoscopes by Rachel Taylor Geier

Welcome to Scorpio season! Just like a typical Scorpio, the Universe is super intense this month. Planets are moving forward and backward, creating new opportunities on one hand and confusion and disorder on the other. The biggest news is that Jupiter, planet of expansion and luck, will be moving signs. Jupiter often leaves a gift before moving into a new sign, so be on the lookout for an early Christmas/Hanukkah present. Most of us will need this pick me up to help us get through the Mercury retrograde beginning on November 17th. Remember to back up all technology before this date and accept that communications of all types will become twisted. Proofread emails and make sure they are actually sent after you hit the “send” button (Mercury retrograde likes to keep emails in limbo just for fun). This retrograde will effect Thanksgiving travel plans. Make sure you leave plenty of time for inevitable delays and have a back up plan. Remain clam: things will return to normal by the end of December.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCORPIO! The month kicks off on November 7th with Uranus going retrograde into your 6th house of daily work and health routines, where it will stay until March 2019. This is a good time to look back on the progress that you have made in both your job and your health over the past seven years. What have your learned about your flute playing during this time? Reflect on how far you have come and if there are any other ways you can further change your current routines to move even closer to your goals. Experiment with your practice schedule during this time. Are you more productive during a different time of the day? On November 7th, a New Moon in your sign puts the spotlight directly on you. Of course, this is a great time to host a recital, but it is also a good time to simply celebrate your recent accomplishments with family and friends. It is your birthday month and you are feeling good about all you have achieved this past year. Your birthday present from the Universe comes from Jupiter on November 9th when he moves out of your sign and into your 2nd house of income. Jupiter nearly always likes to leave a gift of some sort before he moves into another sector of your chart, so be on the lookout for something very meaningful to show up in your life prior to this date. It could be in the form of a performance opportunity or an invitation to host a masterclass at a prestigious location. Whatever it is, there could also be an associated bump in income. Mars moves into your 5th house of creativity on November 16th. Time to roll up your sleeves, Scorpio, and get to work on that creative project you have been putting off. This could be a new composition, a CD recording, or simply a wonderful piece of writing or research about the flute. Mars will help you get to work! November 17th will be the biggest day of the month as Venus, in your 12th house, will go direct while Mercury, in your 2nd house, goes retrograde. Venus direct will help you find new inspiration in the practice room for pieces that might have been recently ignored or new works that may have seemed intimidating. Mercury, on the other hand, will mess with your bank account. Keep your eye on how your money is being spent and make sure anything on direct deposit is being routed correctly. On November 23rd a Full Moon appears in your 8th house, shifting your focus to larger purchases and any contracts or loans you will need to secure to make those purchases happen. You know you’ve wanted a new flute for quite some time. How can you make that happen without going bankrupt? Check out your options during this time. This is perfect timing as the Sun will be moving into your 2nd house of income on November 23rd, shining a light on the money that is coming in. How can you use your income to bring in new things that are meaningful to you?

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

November begins on the 7th of the month with Uranus going retrograde in your 5th house of creativity and children until March 2019. This is a good time to reflect on creative projects that you have been working on over the past seven years. Is there anything from the past that you are suddenly inspired to make better and promote again? A composition or a piece that you performed in the past? How has your teaching changed over this period? Do you have a better approach with younger students who struggle learning fingerings or new breathing techniques? How can you expand on these ideas or bring them to a larger audience? On November 7th a New Moon in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes projects brings your attention to the practice room. You will be locking yourself in practice room during this time woodshedding music for upcoming holiday performances. This is the perfect time to get some hard work out of the way before the chaos of the holidays takes over your life. The best day of the month for you, Sag, is on November 9th when Jupiter, planet of expansion and good luck (and your planetary ruler), moves into your sign, where it will remain until December 2019. You will be on fire during this time! Things that you thought were not possible before suddenly appear in your life. Have you always wanted to perform at the NFA Convention but never thought you were a strong enough player? Jupiter will find a way for you to make this happen. Abundance is now within arm’s reach. Embrace it! On November 16th, Mars moves into your 4th house of home and family – Just in time for the holidays. Decorate the house for the holidays. Take your family out to a show or a concert. Remove all of the junk from your office that does not need to be there. Another important day this month is November 17th when Venus, in your 11th house of groups and communities, goes direct while good, old Mercury, in your sign, goes retrograde. You may be slammed with a number of last-minute rehearsals before the holiday break, and you will mostly enjoy the time spent making music with your colleagues. That is, until you have a miscommunication with a very picky and/or stressed out conductor. Try not to take whatever goes down with this individual personally. Mercury retrograde often twists our words around to mean things that they don’t really mean. Take a step back before reacting to harsh criticism and try to understand exactly what they are asking for in a way that makes sense to you. On November 23rd, a Full Moon in your 7th house of relationships puts a spotlight on your relationships with others. You might need to end a toxic relationship (professional or otherwise) to make room for new, positive connections to come into your life. Tread lightly when communicating with others because Mercury will likely twist your words around. Cut any cords that no longer uplift you and seek out new friends and colleagues with shared goals, interests, and approaches both online and in the world around you. The month ends with the Sun moving into your sign also on November 23rd, shining a light on who you are in the world. You are determined to create a new, better life for yourself both on the inside and on the outside. Pamper yourself on this day. Spend time with loved ones. Practice music that makes you happy and inspired. Purchase a flashy new flute bag or colorful music stand. Do whatever makes you feel alive.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

The month begins with Uranus moving retrograde into your 4th house of home and family on November 7th, where it will stay until March 2019. This is a great time to reflect on all of the changes you have made to your domestic life over the past seven years. You may have moved quite a bit during this time or experienced a number of stressful changes in your family. Rising above the turmoil, you have created a home environment that supports a healthy balance between work and life. How can you maintain that balance moving forward? Do you have a home studio setup that works best for you? Are there ways that you can streamline some of your studio practices to help you spend more time with your family? A New Moon in your 11th house of groups and communities on November 7th puts a spotlight on your performing ensembles. You may be knee deep in rehearsals during this time. Do your best to listen and blend with those around you. Be a team player! Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion, moves into your 12th house of behind the scenes projects on November 9th where he will stay until December 2019. You will likely be spending a lot of time in the practice room learning a number of new skills and drilling more and more repertoire. The practice room will be your happy place! The inspiration you will find here over the next year will help you create wonderful, meaningful new projects in the future. On November 16th Mars will be moving into your 3rd house of communications. Time to get to writing! Have you started a flute blog yet? This is a great time to share your flute playing experiences with the internet. Find some time to make friends with WordPress.com. November 17th will be a dramatic day as Venus will be going direct in your 10th house of careers while Mercury, planet of communication will be going retrograde in your 12th house of behind the scenes activities. You will be moving forward in your career by identifying what it is that you love about flute playing. Is it teaching? Is it performing? How can you bring more of what you enjoy into your career? At the same time, Mercury will have you once again in the practice room participating in some slow, deliberate practice. Break down complicated passages into smaller chunks and shift your focus onto details such as dynamics and articulation. A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of the daily work and health routine on November 23rd while the Sun moves into your 12th house of behind the scenes projects on the very same day. Since you will be spending more time in the practice room during the Jupiter transit, you will also need to rearrange your schedule to make time for everything else. What can you cut out of your life in order to devote more time to practice?

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

November begins with your ruler, Uranus, going retrograde in your 3rd house of communications on November 7th where it will stay until March 2019. A lot has changed over the past seven years when it comes to how you communicate, to whom, and how frequently. You may have been writing or publishing numerous articles about the flute during this transit. Perhaps you have been participating in panels or lecture recitals at national conferences. When Uranus goes retrograde, reflect on how far you have come and ways you can go even further in the future. Are you ready to write a book? On November 7th a New Moon appears in your 10th house of careers. You are ready to embark on a new direction in your career. You may wish to turn your focus onto teaching during this time as you prepare proposals for flute masterclasses at institutions both locally and around the country. You may instead wish to devote your time to auditions on your path to landing an orchestral position. The New Moon will support all of your new endeavors. On November 9th, Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion, moves into your 11th house of groups and communities, where he will stay until December 2019. You will be joining a number of new ensembles over this transit and connecting with more and more flute groups both online and in the world. This, of course, means more rehearsals, but you are no doubt up for the challenge. Mars moves into your 2nd house of income on November 16th. It is recruitment time for your studio! You are looking to add a number of new students to your practice in order to generate a boost to your income. Host a free masterclass for junior high and high school students who may be searching for a private instructor. Create flyers and post them at local music stores. Advertise to local schools and community centers. Mars will help you get the word out about openings in your studio. The drama continues on November 17th when Venus goes direct in your 9th house of travel while Mercury goes retrograde in your 11th house of groups and communities. When Venus goes direct, you may be planning a wonderful winter vacation to a place you love. A holiday ski adventure in Colorado with your family? An escape from the snow to the Hawaiian islands? Mercury, on the other hand, will be create miscommunications with other musicians in your ensembles. Try to be as clear and respectful with your words as possible during this time as hurt feelings could easily arise from unintentional criticism. A Full Moon in your 5th house of creativity and joy on November 23rd may see you wrapping up a creative project. Are you dropping a Holiday CD recording or posting a number of holiday YouTube video performances during this time? This is also juxtaposed with the Sun moving into your 11th house of groups and communities also on November 23rd, encouraging you to make new connections to online groups and communities or auditioning to new ensembles. You are ready to make new flute friends and are excited to join new groups just in time for the holiday season.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Uranus moves retrograde into your 2nd house of income on November 7th, urging you to reflect on some of the changes you have made to your income over the past seven years. How has your job changed during this time? Have you found a position that helps bring home the bacon while also cultivating your unique talents? This is a great time to reflect and come up with new ways to bring even more income doing the things that you love (whether that be performing, teaching, writing, or whatever inspires you). Also on November 7th, a New Moon appears in your 9th house of travel. You may be going on a trip somewhere wonderful. This does not necessarily need to be to a flute related destination, but there is something about this trip that will help you understand more about your own personal connection to music. Have fun and keep an open mind. Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion, moves into your 10th house of careers on November 9th. This is a perfect placement for Jupiter as it will help you make great strides in your career from now until December 2019. Apply to those jobs that you really want but do not think you are qualified enough to land. Audition to professional orchestras that you may think are out of your league. Submit applications to teaching jobs at institutions that you don’t think will give you the time of day. Take exciting new risks in your career at this time because with Jupiter supporting you in this area, things that you never thought were possible will suddenly come to fruition. Mars moves into your sign on November 16th, helping you to do all of the things. This is not just related to your flute playing – Mars will help you to literally check off everything on your do-to list. It will be as if Mars has just handed you a 12 pack of Red Bull and said “Go”! Any projects that have been left on the backburner will get done at this time. Any practicing you need to get done will happen. Any lessons you need to reschedule will all be rescheduled. You will be the masters of productivity! On November 17th Venus will be moving direct again in your 8th house of finance while Mercury will be going retrograde in your 10th house of careers. This, of course, means two different things. As Venus moves direct, any loan applications, tax documents, credit card applications, or grant submissions will finally move from “pending” to “approved” (or “denied,” whatever the case may be). You will get some type of closure on anything financial. Mercury, on the other hand, will be creating havoc and miscommunications in your career zone. Although you are excited about the new possibilities in your career, be careful when broaching the subject of expanding your career with those in authority. They will only hear that you are unhappy and want to leave, which will likely cause some negative feelings. Be sure to proofread ALL emails that go out and stick to short, sweet, clear sentences when you are discussing your future career goals. A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family on November 23rd while the Sun moves into your 10th house of careers on the very same day. You may be ending something in your home life during this time. Maybe your home studio just isn’t working out for you – too many distractions! The Sun will help move you into a studio space that also enhances your career, likely driving in more students. This could be either at a local school, college, or even at an instrument repair shop. Whatever the location, you will be expanding your practice and moving closer to your newly established career goals.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Happy November, Aries. The month begins with Uranus going retrograde in your sign on November 7th. The past seven years have been quite dramatic for you. You have reinvented yourself many times and have finally reached a place in your life where you like who you are, you like what you do, and you like the direction you are going in your life and career. Reflect on all of these changes and begin to examine the ways in which you can bring more of what you truly love into your life. Is it performing that makes you happy? Host more recitals. Is it writing? Publish more articles. A New Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance also on November 7th. You may begin to think about larger purchases during this time, perhaps in connection with the reflective energy of Uranus. There may be a grant or fellowship opportunity now available to you to explore flute playing in another country. The Full Moon in this house will inspire you to take the next step to apply to this funding opportunity. Begin to put together a grant budget and research practical elements such as cost of living, concert fees, transportation costs, and any other fees that may come up during your hypothetical research journey. Jupiter, planet of expansion and good luck, will be moving into your 9th house of travel on November 9th. As you begin to put your grant application together, you will likely have travel on your mind. Jupiter will remain in this house until December 2019, encouraging you to expand your wings and travel to new and exciting destinations over the coming year. You will begin to research and learn more about flute playing in other countries, explore different genres of flute playing, and learn new techniques from flutists far and wide. Pack your bags, Aries! Mars moves into your 12th house of behind the scenes projects on November 16th. Mars does not really like being in this house as it is often the sector associated with retreating and reflecting, however this is also is the sector of the practice room. You will likely be rolling up your sleeves and locking yourself in the practice during this period. Practice all of the things during this time. You will be very productive in your practice sessions. Make a plan every time you hit the music. What are your priorities? What will you need to work on each day? Keep a practice journal and set daily and weekly goals for yourself! On November 17th Venus will be going direct in your 7th house of relationships while Mercury will be going retrograde in your 9th house of travel. This is a great time to seek out new friendships and form partnerships with new colleagues. You may have been reconnecting with old friends over the past few weeks and are ready to form new, yet equally important, friendships with other flutists. Hit up social media and strike up a conversation. Just try not to travel anywhere… Mercury retrograde in your house of travel will cause delays and disruptions with any travel plans. Leave plenty early for any trips you take during this time. Double-check all itineraries and always have a Plan B if weather or other unforeseen circumstances ruins otherwise perfectly laid plans. A Full Moon appears in your 3rd house of communications on November 23rd while the Sun moves into your 9th house of travel on the very same day. This is a good time for completing any writing projects that might have been on the backburner. Send that article in for publication consideration. Draft that last chapter of your DMA paper and email it to your advisor for final approval. You are ready. The Sun in your travel house will encourage you to book a winter vacation. Just try your best to wait until after the Mercury retrograde to head to the airport. End of December/beginning of January is perfect! Bon voyage!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

November begins with Uranus, planet of the unexpected, moving retrograde into your 12th house of behind the scenes projects, where it will remain until March 2019. You have made a great number of changes to the way that you practice over the past seven years. You no longer go in and practice whatever you like - You start with a plan. You may have changed this plan several times throughout this past transit, putting more weight into one area at certain times over others (repertoire over scale studies or articulation practice over drilling orchestral excerpts), but you have currently arrived at a practice plan that works best for you. This is a great time to reflect on the ways that you can further improve your present practice strategy to bring in more of what works best for you. Have you considered the time of day you practice? Have you tried practicing at shorter, more frequent intervals? You may want to talk all of these ideas over with your friends as the New Moon in your 7th house of relationships on the very same day (November 7th) encourages you to strengthen the bond you share with your current colleagues while also making new connections with other flute friends. Strike up a conversation on an online flute forum, soliciting practice tips from other flutists in the business. They may have some good ideas for approaches you had not yet considered. Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion, moves into your 8th house of finance on November 9th, where it will stay until December 2019. You will be making some larger purchases over the next year, Taurus. This could be a new flute, a new studio space, or you could be applying to research grants to study various aspects of the flute and flute playing in another country. There will be a lot of red tape involved in these transactions, but Jupiter will help make the impossible suddenly possible this year. Take risks you would not normally take! You may think that the bank will laugh in your face when you tell them you wish to take out a personal loan to purchase a $10,000 instrument, but in reality they may help you come up with a reasonable payment play to make that happen. On November 16th Mars moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. Put your auditioning hat on, roll up your sleeves, and dive deep into excerpts because you, Dear Taurus, will be looking to join a number of new ensembles. You are ready for a new challenge and Mars will help you fight for chair placements in groups that you have wanted to join for quite a while now. Go for it! On November 17th, Venus will finally be going direct in your 6th house of the daily health and work routines while Mercury will be going retrograde in your 8th house of finance. You will be extra charming at work during this time. Tasks that used to be difficult and time consuming will become easier at this time and you may be getting a few helping hands from your colleagues. You may even be working out a bit more away from the gym and out in the beautiful fall landscape. Mercury, on the other hand, will be causing serval delays when it comes to contracts and agreements. Try to remain calm at this time. There will be backtracking and renegotiations. Grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte and take these roadblocks one at a time. Proofread all emails to bank officials and make sure you are not sharing confidential information such as credit card numbers on unsecured websites. A Full Moon in your 2nd house of income on November 23rd may bring an ending to a relationship with a student that clearly does not want to play the flute. You may have tried all that you can to encourage them, but they are just not into it. It’s okay – remember, not everybody in the world wants to play the flute. This may feel like a bittersweet ending, but it will create space in your schedule to accept new students who think the flute is the Bomb.Com. The Sun also moves into your 8th house of finance on November 23rd, bringing those fellowship and grant opportunites into your radar. Research all of the requirements on this day. What documentation will you need to gather? What deadlines have been set? Do you need letters of recommendation? Jupiter will be helping you out so remember to take risks and make the impossible possible.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

The month begins with Uranus moving retrograde in your 11th house of groups and communities on November 7th, where it will remain until March 2019. You have performed with a number of smaller chamber groups and larger bands and orchestras over the past seven years. Some may have challenged you in good ways while others have made you seriously question why you play the flute. You have learned a lot about yourself as a player and what types of musicians you connect with both musically and professionally. Take this time to reflect on some of your experiences. How can you bring more of these positive group experiences into your life? Can you form smaller chamber ensembles with the musicians you enjoy performing with in your larger ensembles? A New Moon appears in your 6th house of the daily work and health routines on November 7th, encouraging you to revamp your daily schedule a bit to fit in more of the work activities that you enjoy. Would you like to join another group and schedule in more rehearsals? The New Moon will help you remove some of the energy zapping tasks from your life to make space for those new groups. On November 9th, Jupiter, the planet of expansion and good luck, moves into your 7th house of relationships where it will stay until December 2019. You will be expanding your social and professional networks over the next year, connecting with flutists and other musicians from across the globe. This is a good time to create new business cards, revamp your website, and head to regional, national, and international conferences to connect with musicians of all types. You will meet wonderful new people and make lasting and important connections during this period. Mars will move into your 10th house of careers on November 16th, encouraging you to make some headway on your most important career goals. How will you get to the next step? Are there auditions that you need to take to improve your chair placement? What is preventing you from landing that teaching position at your local, or not so local, higher education institution? Mars will help you take the initiative to get to the next step. This may be in the form of an audition, revamping your CV, or taking additional courses or training to fill in the gaps in your experience. November 17th will be quite a big day as Venus will be turning direct in your 5th house of creativity and joy while Mercury will be going retrograde in your 7th house of relationships. Take some time to do something fun on this date. Go to a concert or look for some new inspiration in other creative activities. Paint, knit, or simply watch a film that speaks to you. You will need this distraction because your relationships will be going a bit haywire at this time. There will likely be miscommunications with your friends and colleagues at this time (thanks Mercury retro!). Try to proofread all outgoing emails and be patient with your friends at this time. Remember that nothing will be as it seems. A Full Moon appears in your sign on November 23rd while the Sun moves into your 7th house of relationships. Makeover time! This is the perfect time to revamp your flute playing from the inside out. Change everything. Unhappy with your sound? Research new ways to sharpen the center of your sound and experiment with headjoint placement. The Sun will help connect you with other flutists who will have some great advice for you in your quest to improve all aspects of your playing. Post questions in online flute forums and keep an open mind. You might get some great advice from unexpected sources.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Happy November, Cancer. You month begins with Uranus going retrograde in your 10th house of careers on November 7th, where it will stay until March 2019. You have made quite a number of career changes over the past seven years when Uranus first moved into this house. What have you learned throughout this process? What parts of your career have been challenging? What have you changed about your career? Are you happy with the career that you have built for yourself? Use this time to consider which aspects of your career truly make you happy and how you can bring more of what you love into your life. Do you truly enjoy teaching above playing? Are there job openings at local music colleges in your area that could help bring more students into your practice? Apply! A New Moon in your 5th house of creativity and children will help you develop a new creative project, perhaps one involving younger student learners. This would be a wonderful time to start a youth flute choir! Host a masterclass and try out some new beginning flute choir repertoire with your younger students. Jupiter, planet of expansion and luck, will be moving into your 6th house of work and health routines on November 9th, where it will stay until December 2019. You will be making significant changes to your job over the next year. A promotion could be in store during this time. You may suddenly move from playing 2nd flute to principal or move from teaching in an independent studio to accepting a post teaching at a local college. Remember to take risks and apply to positions that you may not think possible. Jupiter often makes the impossible possible. Dream big! On November 16th Mars moves into your 9th house of travel, inspiring you to make some travel plans. You may have been talking about going on a vacation for a while now. Now is the time to make some concrete plans, book your tickets, and inform your employer that you will be out of town on vacay. You deserve a break! November 17th is a big day as Venus will move direct in your 4th house of home and family while Mercury will be going retrograde in your 6th house of the daily home and work routines. You will be inspired to beautify your home in some way. Decorate for the holidays a bit early. Move your office furniture so that your studio space works better for you. This will be a welcome distraction as Mercury will be simultaneous causing miscommunications in your work life. Proofread those emails before you hit “send”. Make sure not to hit that pesky “reply all” button when responding to group emails or forwarding confidential documents to outside contacts. You may also have disagreements with other flutists in your orchestra section during the Mercury retrograde. Try your best not to take anything that is said at this time personally. Be as clear as you can be with your words and remember that nothing is as it seems. A Full Moon appears in your 12th house of behind the scenes projects on November 23rd, accompanied by the Sun moving into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You may be getting a promotion on this day or preparing for a very important audition for a new position. The Full Moon will encourage you to lock yourself in the practice room and get to work. You are determined to land this position. The energy of the Sun and the Moon will help make this happen for you.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Welcome to November, Leo. The month begins with Uranus moving retrograde in your 9th house of travel on November 7th, where it will stay until March 2019. You have had numerous adventures over the past seven years! What have your travels taught you about flute playing, music, or yourself? Was there a particular place that truly inspired you? Take this time to reflect on all of these trips abroad and where you still wish to explore in the future. A New Moon on November 7th falls in your 4th house of home and family, encouraging you to bring your family into future travel conversations. Where can you travel that combines your passion for flute playing with adventures you can share with your family? Give them a front row seat to your passion! They will really enjoy being a part of what you love. Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion, moves signs on November 9th and heads into your 5th house of creativity, children, and joy, where it will stay until December 2019. This is a great time to begin any crazy creative projects that you may have had on your mind. Jupiter will not only help bring your ideas to life, but will also help you create something amazing. Think big! Jupiter often makes the impossible possible. As the movie quote goes, “If you build it, they will come.” On November 16th Mars moves into your 8th house of finance, encouraging you to apply to travel grants for your next expedition. Time to get that budget together! November 17th is quite a dramatic day in the heavens as Venus goes direct, here in your 3rd house of communications, while Mercury, planet of communications goes retrograde in your 5th house of creativity and fun. This is very interesting as Venus will be helping you smooth over the difficulties Mercury will be stirring up in your general communications with others (so don’t stress too much about that typo you made on a Facebook post), but you may be having a difficult time forming concrete plans when it comes to your exciting new creative projects. Be patient and use this time to review and reassess your ideas before bringing other collaborators into the mix. A Full Moon occurs in your 11th house of groups and communities on November 23rd, accompanied closely by the Sun moving into your 5th house of creativity. You are no doubt distracted by this wonderful new project, but in order to devote the time necessary to get things moving, you may need to cut down on your participation in certain ensembles. Time turners only exist in the magical world of Harry Potter. You will need to reprioritize your schedule and remove rehearsals that do not move you in the right direction. It’s okay to take a sabbatical once in a while. Your colleagues will understand.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

The month begins with Uranus, planet of the unexpected, going retrograde into your 8th house of finance on November 7th, where it will remain until March. You have likely made a number of large purchases over the past seven years. This could be in the form of tangible things (such as a new house, a new flute, or a new car), or you more likely have received a number of research or travel grants to study music in another area of the World. Use this time to reflect on your research ventures. Did you spend your grant funds wisely? What would you have done differently? Are there still holes in your research that you would like to address with additional studies? Are there other grants available to help fund these ventures? A New Moon appears in your 3rd house of communications on November 7th, urging you to communicate some of your new research ideas to other colleagues, conductors, or other individuals in authority who might help you turn your dreams into reality. You may have to draft an abstract or initial research plan for your funding department during this time. Try to complete this before the Mercury retrograde later this month to avoid any potential delays. Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion, moves into your 4th house of home and family on November 9th, where it will stay until December 2019. This is a great time to begin planning renovations on your home. Do you have plans for a new home studio space? Or perhaps a new space for your chamber music group to rehearse (other than your freezing cold garage)? Now is the perfect time to create initial construction plans and put together a realistic budget. Jupiter will help you create the space of your dreams so dream big! Mars moves into your 7th house of relationships on November 16th and wants you to make some new friends! Connect with other flutists both online and in person. Take your local flutists out to lunch during this time and talk shop. If your community does not yet have a flute club, this would be a good opportunity to set up a few informal meetings with flutists in your area to discuss studio openings, local flute events, upcoming recitals, and ideas for group collaborations. On November 17th Venus goes direct in your 2nd house of income while Mercury goes retrograde in your 4th house of home and family. You will be attracting a number of new students into your studio practice which is great for your income, but your family may not enjoy the amount time you are spending teaching and not hanging out with them. Any plans you make with them may go awry (thanks Mercury retrograde!). Try to be patient with them during this period. Start planning some dedicated family time during the holidays after Mercury goes direct again. A Full Moon occurs in your 10th house of careers on November 23rd while the Sun moves into your 4th house of home and family. You are about the close the chapter on one part of your career to move forward in another direction. This may even be connected to your home studio renovations. Have you been teaching at an institution and recently made the decision to move your practice to your home studio? This is a great time to make that transition. This career move will give you much more control over lesson fees, policies, and access to teaching space.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Your 7th house of relationships will be in the spotlight at the beginning of the month, Libra, as Uranus goes retrograde in this sector on November 7th, where it will stay until March. You have made a number of new friends and other connections over the past seven years. Many of them may have been flutists and other musicians, but you have also met individuals outside of the music industry that have really changed your life for the better. Use this period to reflect on the amazing relationships you have created during this past transit, what they have taught you, and what other connections you wish to make in the future. It is never easy to network with others, but it is nearly always worth it. A New Moon appears in your 2nd house of income on November 7th. You will be getting a promotion of some sort or attracting a number of new gigs and/or students. Use this as an opportunity not only to increase your income, but also to connect with other musicians in your community. On November 9th, Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion, will move into your 3rd house of communication where it will stay until December 2019. You will be writing up a storm during this transit. Have you always wanted to publish a book or article? Jupiter will help you put pen to paper and get your ideas out to a broader audience. Avoid any self-doubt – Jupiter will make some of your wildest publishing dreams come true. Mars moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines on November 16th, temporarily making you a workaholic. You are determined to do all the things. Rehearsals will take over your life. Don’t worry – you are ready for this intense time. Roll up your sleeves and get to playing! On November 17th, Venus goes direct in your sign while Mercury goes retrograde in your 3rd house of communication. This will be a confusing time for you. You will be quite popular and charming, but you will struggle to communicate with those around you. For example, you may have a recital during this time that is very well attended, but your performance may have a number of issues. You may disappointed in your playing, but your audience will be too enamored by your recital outfit to notice any missed notes. Others may misinterpret any words of insecurity as fishing for compliments. Tread lightly and select your words carefully – People are not hearing you correctly. On November 23rd, a Full Moon appears in your 9th house of travel, accompanied by the Sun moving into your 3rd house of communications. You may be returning from a research trip and are suddenly inspired to write about some of your adventures. If you do not yet have a flute blog or YouTube Vlog, this is the perfect time to set up your site and start sharing your experiences abroad with the internet. What did you learn? What can you share with the World?

Happy November!
