Stefan Ragnar Höskuldsson joins the Berlin Philharmonic
Exciting news from the flute world! Stefan Ragnar Höskuldsson, Principal Flute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, has won the prestigious principal flute position with the Berlin Philharmonic. He will succeed Sebastian Jacot, who previously took over from Mathieu Dufour—another former Chicago Symphony principal. Dufour departed the Berlin Philharmonic in December 2021 "for personal reasons".
Stefan Ragnar Höskuldsson was appointed to the Chicago Symphony in 2015 by Music Director Riccardo Muti. Prior to joining the CSO, he served as principal flute of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra from 2008-2015. A native of Iceland, Stefán has been praised by the New York Times for his "agility and warmth of expression".
His appointment marks yet another remarkable chapter in his distinguished career. Congratulations to Stefan on this incredible achievement!
