Hyperflute is a complete sample library of 12+ GB of flute sounds, including all extended techniques, ranging from Contrabass flute up to the piccolo flute, professionally recorded, and built to a powerful sampler instrument compatible with the industry standards for audio workstations.
It all started as a quarantine activity. Being a fulltime concert flautist, all my concerts were canceled until the end of the year due to COVID-19 restrictions, so I decided to engage in this project and recorded each day some samples. I soon ended up with 10 different complete sample instruments with more than 5000 samples. So I decided to start a Kickstarter campaign to launch this project. I was astonished to get such a positive engagement. Especially my backers and many composers, producer, and flautists, gave me important feedback. I decided therefore to meet some of their requests and added additional features throughout the entire campaign.
Now Hyperflute is a complete tool including additional resources about the extended techniques. The interface even suggests a notation for each technique, helping composers to get familiar with the flute and its rich palette of special sounds.
Many years of experience as both a concert flautist and composer in the field of contemporary, experimental music, as well as my education as a recording engineer, were combined in this project. I wanted to create a one for all complete libraries that can help both composers as well as producers or sound artists to learn more about the flute and its beautiful extended techniques. Some of the percussive techniques are so particular, they can surely be used instead of drums in a track. I, therefore, put a focus on these techniques, which sound really massive on low instruments!
As a freelance flautist, composer, and electroacoustic performer, Alessandro Baticci is active internationally in the field of contemporary music and sound art. Engagements have taken him to Japan, USA, Russia, Argentina, China, Switzerland, Taiwan, and all over Europe, performing in the most important venues and festivals such as Salzburger Festspiele, Biennale di Venezia, Warsaw Autumn, Wiener Festwochen and many more. His dedication to contemporary music led him not only to cooperations with composers such as Beat Furrer, Tristan Murail, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Brian Ferneyhough, but also to an intensive activity in the field of sound installations, performative art, and electroacoustic composition. His inventive approach brought him to develop new electro-acoustical instruments, digital control and mapping instruments, sound solutions for winds (woodify), and new applications for the music industry.
