DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES December 2021

Rachel Taylor Geier

Happy holidays! This year will conclude with exciting new opportunities, a sprinkling of nostalgia, and an abundance of joy. A Solar Eclipse at the beginning of the month will bring something new and wonderful into your life. Accept this gift from the Universe with courage and grace. You may be asked to step outside your comfort zone. Be bold and follow the lead of the Universe - It will show you the way to greatness. A Venus retrograde mid-month will bring back happy memories of past triumphs, outstanding performances, and gatherings with friends and family from long ago. Relive these times by looking through photo albums and replaying old videos. The month closes with the proverbial Santa Claus of the Zodiac, Jupiter, bestowing abundance to everyone. Enjoy these gifts but be sure to look through any fine print. Neptune is positioned in the same house and may gloss over some of the details. Be merry, spread joy, and remember all of your greatest experiences in life in hopeful anticipation for those yet to come.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

December 4th – A Solar Eclipse appears in your 1st house of identity. This is the very best time to reinvent yourself. The Solar Eclipse will ask you to be super honest with yourself and your most important goals. Are you living your most authentic flute life? Are you trying to be a performer, auditioning for ensembles left and right, when you know in your heart of hearts that you are meant to be a teacher? Does teaching inspire you in ways that performing just does not? Follow that path!

December 13th – Mercury moves into your 2nd house of income. This is a great time to interview for a new job. You are craving a new challenge in your work life. Mercury will help you sell your unique talents to even the harshest committee. Prepare to best answer the question, “What makes you a fit for this position?”

December 13th – Mars moves into your 1st house of identity. Have you thought about your list of New Year’s Resolutions yet? You may want to do this early this year. Mars is poised to help give you the energy to accomplish your goals ASAP. Want to host a Spring recital? Start practicing now! Want to finally master that super complicated piece? Bracket the sections that will need the most attention and start woodshedding.

December 18th – A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. There may be a toxic relationship in your environment that will need to change or even end around the time of this Full Moon. Chances are good that you will be on a holiday break. Reflect carefully during this time on how best to approach this person regarding any communication problems. Schedule a chat when you return from break. Be honest about goals and clear about limitations.

December 19th – Venus goes retrograde in your 2nd house of income. You may be approached by a former employer to perform a bit of contract work when Venus goes retrograde. Perhaps your youth orchestra is searching for a soloist for an upcoming performance. Or a former flute teacher is searching for a sabbatical replacement. Go for it! Venus will bring you a bit of nostalgia along with a few coins for your bank account.

December 21st – The Sun moves into your 2nd house of income. Your attention will shift onto your job when the Sun moves signs. Looking for a new opportunity? This is a great time to peruse job boards, brush up on excerpts, update your CV, and reboot your website.

December 28th – Jupiter joins Neptune in your 4th of home and family.  Jupiter is the planet of luck and expansion. Moving into your 4th house indicates that you may be in the market for a larger home. Use this time to daydream and window-shop (thanks to Neptune). What would your dream home have in it? What type of studio space would it feature? Would you like a convenient out building for your studio or would you prefer a larger space with a private entrance? Dream big!

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

December 4th – A Solar Eclipse appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. This is a great time to reinvent the way you approach practice. Change up the time of day you typically practice, where you practice, and how you structure your sessions. Have you tried practicing in shorter, mini sessions? Do you keep a practice journal? There may be a much more efficient way to use your practice time.

December 13th – Mercury moves into your 1st house of identity. Mercury will encourage you to ask for what you need. Do you end up wearing yourself thin doing things for others? Do you need more time to perform? Or more space to practice? Or better equipment in your studio? Start communicating these needs to others. They may be able to help!

December 13th – Mars moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will be practicing all the things when Mars moves signs. As the holidays approach, you may find a bit more time in your schedule for focused practice. This is a great time to practice new repertoire or get a head start on working on orchestral excerpts for the next concert season. Avoid mindless practice by beginning each session with a plan.

December 18th – A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Something in your daily schedule will need to change or even end around the time of this Full Moon. As the new year approaches, you may start thinking about New Year’s Resolutions and ways to improve your life in the coming year. This includes streamlining your schedule. What responsibilities can you delegate to others?

December 19th – Venus goes retrograde in your 1st house of identity. You will be very nostalgic for the “good old days” when Venus goes retrograde. Think about why you initially chose to play the flute. What did you love about it when you were younger? How can you capture that same youthful excitement for performing now as you had then? Relive some of your favorite pieces through more experienced eyes.

December 21st – The Sun moves into your 1st house of identity. The spotlight will shift onto you, Cap, when the Sun moves signs. This is a great time to host a performance (virtual or otherwise). You may even want to record a few holiday video performances for your YouTube page. Share your gifts with a much wider audience!

December 28th – Jupiter joins Neptune in your 3rd house of communications. If you do not yet have a flute blog, this is the perfect time to set one up. Jupiter, planet of expansion, will encourage you to write up a storm while Neptune will encourage you to use your imagination. What topics interest you about the flute? What great ideas do you have about performing or teaching that you’d like to share with others? Start outlining some of your ideas for upcoming posts.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

December 4th – A Solar Eclipse appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be joining a very important new ensemble around the time of this Eclipse. If you are offered an audition during this time, take it! The Universe is gifting you with a very important opportunity to make new connections. Put your best foot forward and make the most out of your new gig.

December 13th – Mercury moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. If you have a flute blog (or YouTube channel), this would be a great time to discuss some of your best kept practice tips. How do you structure your practice routines? What time of day do you practice? Do you ever post clips from your practice sessions? Your audience may identify with some of your challenges and practice advice.

December 13th – Mars moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. You will be very busy in rehearsals when Mars moves house. Preparing for holiday performances? Mars will give you all the energy and focus you need to hop from one rehearsal to the next. You may even toss in a few impromptu rounds of caroling around your community with fellow woodwind players. Make sure you are getting plenty of rest and taking regular breaks to avoid burning out.

December 18th – A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. If you are working on a creative project (such as composition or a recording), you may need to rethink your work or abandon your project around the time of this Full Moon. Something isn’t quite coming together. Give your work to a trusted colleague for a second opinion. There may be another way to approach your work. Revise and streamline what you can. Sometimes less is more.

December 19th – Venus goes retrograde in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will likely spend some time in the practice room re-playing old favorites when Venus goes retrograde. Memorize (or re-memorize) the ones you’ve loved the most. Rethink some of your interpretations. How can you breathe new life into old repertoire?

December 21st – The Sun moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will be spending a lot of time in the practice room when the Sun moves signs. Practice all of the things. Work on any new practice techniques you’ve read about or any new tips you may have picked up at masterclasses earlier in the year.

December 28th – Jupiter joins Neptune in your 2nd house of income. Be prepared for a few job offers or new work opportunities to spring up out of nowhere when Jupiter moves signs. Be careful to read all of the fine print -  Neptune sometimes shows us things are indeed too good to be true. Separate the genuine offers from the fake news.

December 4th – A Solar Eclipse appears in your 10th house of career goals. This Eclipse may present you with a career opportunity that is literally too good to pass up. You may be intimidated to apply or audition because you want this job more than anything. Be bold! Fight for the job you want and show those in leadership why you deserve this opportunity.

December 13th – Mercury moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. Host a sectional with your fellow flutists when Mercury moves signs. Use this time to work on balance, intonation, and timing while also clearing the air for any non-musical issues. It is often difficult for flutists to bond within the competitive world of performance. Change this stereotype in your group. We are, after all, stronger together!

December 13th – Mars moves into your 10th house of career goals. Mars will encourage you to get a jump start on all of your most important career goals. Do you have an idea where you would like to be in the next year? Next five years? Next 10 years? What are the action steps that you can take now to move closer to your goals? Carpe diem. Take the first steps!

December 18th – A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. Does your home studio need a glow up? Move your studio to another room in the house if you are looking for more space (or just a change of scenery). A change of scenery will do you well.

December 19th – Venus goes retrograde in your 11th house of groups and communities. Connect with some of your old orchestra colleagues when Venus goes retrograde. What are they up to? Are there any opportunities to collaborate on chamber performances or summer masterclasses in the future? Reminisce about the good old days and relive some of your favorite memories of past performances.

December 21st – The Sun moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. Your attention will shift onto ensemble work when the Sun moves houses. Take a look at the audition boards around this time. Are there any groups looking for a flutist? What are the audition requirements? Is there any travel involved? Start woodshedding those excerpts!

December 28th – Jupiter joins Neptune in your 1st house of identity. What do you love the most about your flute life? Is it teaching? Is it performing? Jupiter will help you attract more of what you love when it moves into your sign at the end of the month. Make sure what you are asking from the Universe is somewhat practical. Neptune sometimes clouds our judgment with rose-colored glasses. Follow reasonable leads towards all of your most important goals.

Have you veered off from your original message? Do your supporting paragraphs tie clearly back to the overall theme? Clarify what can be clarified and abandon whatever clutters your writing.

December 19th – Venus goes retrograde in your 10th house of career goals. Take a trip down career memory lane when Venus goes retrograde. Think back to a time when you were super motivated and genuinely happy to play the flute. Were you performing? Were you writing? Were you teaching? December 21st – The Sun moves into your 10th house of career goals. Your attention will shift onto your career track when the Sun moves signs. Taurus (April 20-May 20)

December 4th – A Solar Eclipse appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. One of your New Year’s Resolutions may be to buy a new flute. This Solar Eclipse will help you look realistically into all of your financing options. What plans are available through various instrument dealers? What is your budget? Start researching what resources you may already have at your disposal to make this purchase sooner rather than later.

December 13th – Mercury moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. This is a great time to meet with a college advisor or grant agency about opportunities to study abroad. Draft a short, clear project proposal to gather input. What else do you need to consider to better structure your proposal?

December 13th – Mars moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Mars will ask you to start saving some money. Not only do you want to purchase a new flute in the coming year, but you also want to travel. Both of these things will require a bit more cash than you may currently have in your accounts. A great way to start saving is to cut out expenses that you no longer need or that you could sacrifice in the short term. Gym membership? Cancel it and exercise in the great outdoors. Subscription to apps you rarely use? Take a break from these by putting a short-term hold on your subscription. Cancel cable. The money you save now will come in super handy in the next few months.

December 18th – A Full Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. Something in your job will need to either change drastically or end around the time of this Full Moon. You may have been putting in a lot of time and effort on a very important goal only to discover this month that something about it just doesn’t work. This Full Moon will ask you to face some harsh truths. Remember – If it doesn’t make you happy, don’t do it. If you do not actually wish to be in an orchestra, it is okay to look at other ways to design your ideal flute life. Do what makes your heart shine (as they say on Mama Mia II).

December 19th – Venus goes retrograde in your 8th house of banking and finance. Venus will ask you to invest in nostalgia. Some YouTubers make a career out of buying nostalgic items from their childhoods and creating reaction videos using the same items as adults. You may even steal this concept for your own YouTube page! Or you may just invest in new editions of old pieces that you love. Perhaps a new edition of a Mozart concerti or new recordings of all the Bach Flute Sonatas. Relive some of the repertoire you loved in the past through a fresh lens.
