DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES September 2022

Happy September! Love is in the air as the weather changes from Summer to Fall. Her majesty, Venus, is changing signs twice this month. Venus likes to bring beauty and love to whatever aspect of life she touches. Watch your wallet though – Venus also likes to shop! Spoil yourself if it is in your budget and brings a smile to your face. Otherwise, look for free and easy was to replicate that joy. A Mercury Retrograde mid-month will shake things up a bit and create misunderstandings out of thin air. Try to remain as flexible as possible and keep communications short, sweet, and to the point. At the end of the month we have the Sun, a New Moon, and Venus all moving into the same house over the span of a week. Be on the lookout for new clarity, new opportunities, and new joy in your life. Follow the lead of the Universe and say yes to the offers that come your way. Look forward towards greener pastures at the end of the month.

Virgo (August 23-September 22) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

September 5th – Venus moves into your 1st house of identity. You will be the most popular kid on the block when Venus moves into your 1st house. This is the very best time to host a recital. Your audience will be enthralled by your unique style and excellent choice of repertoire.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 2nd house of income. You may need to take a step back at your day job and reevaluate if it is worth the time and energy you put into it. There could be a better job out there for you that causes less stress for more money or one that is better aligned with a cause you care about. You are not stuck in your current gig.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. There may be a toxic relationship that will need to come to and end around the time of this Full Moon. Do you have a colleague that you do not see eye-to-eye with, both personally and musically? Invite them out for coffee to talk it out. Is there a win-win solution to your interpersonal problems?

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 2nd house of income. Your job will be in the spotlight when the Sun moves signs. This is a great time to apply to other positions, wether they are at your day job, or for performing and/or teaching opportunities that may be listed on various job boards. Apply (and audition) for everything!

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. The Universe is about to present you with a new job opportunity that is simply too good to pass up. Follow your gut feeling about this job. Chance are that this gig will open new and important doors for you in the future.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 2nd house of income. Don’t spend your new paycheck all in on place when Venus moves signs. Your new job likely came with a nice pay raise. Congrats! Spend your hard-earned income instead on a few updated work outfits and some beautiful new stationary.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Venus will encourage you to spend some quality time in the practice room with old favorites. Reconnect with important pieces from your past. How can you breathe new life into these works? Is there something in these works that you hadn’t noticed before?

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 1st house of identity. This is a great time to reconsider your most important flute playing goals. Ask yourself what makes your flute playing unique? Are you truly living your best flute life? If not, what type of flutist would you really like to be? Who are your flute idols? Reinvent your flute playing from the ground up!

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Something in your daily schedule is just not working for you. Are you too busy with various obligations to squeeze in enough practice time? Do you find yourself turning down performing or speaking invitations because you are involved in one too many committees with one too many responsibilities? Where can you streamline? Is there a committee you can safely bow out of or a regular task you can delegate to someone else?

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 1st house of identity. Your focus will shift onto your most important flute goals when the Sun moves signs. The Mercury retrograde has helped you redefine what it is that you want your flute life to look like. What is the next step? Do you need any gear to help you get there (a new flute, new music, various upgrades in technology)? Take the first step.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. The Universe will likely give you an opportunity to strut your stuff around the time of this Full Moon.  You may receive an invitation to perform out of the blue. Take it! Shrug off that intimidation and just go for it! This is the cue from the Universe that you deserve more credit for the awesome flute player that you truly are and validation that you are on track to becoming an even better flute player in the near future.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 1st house of identity. Venus will make you super popular when it moves signs. This is the best time to host a recital. Your audience will be dazzled by your sound and technique. Don’t think – Just play!

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. Venus will likely bring a wonderful new performing group into your life at the beginning of the month. Perhaps you will be asked to sub for a local orchestra or maybe audition for a local flute choir. This will be a great opportunity to connect with talented and like-minded musicians and play some fabulous new repertoire.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Reconsider how you practice when Mercury goes retrograde. You may have fallen off your typical practice routine lately. How can you change things up for the better? Can you alter the time of day you typically practice? Switch up your practice routine? Add a few improv exercises to the end of each session? Try everything and think outside the box.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may be experiencing some setbacks when it comes to a creative project. Take a step back and reevaluate your work. Has your project spun out of control? Where can you streamline your ideas so they all better connect to the overall theme of the work? Remember, sometimes less is more.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. The Sun will have you spending a great deal of time in the practice room. Practice all the things! Did you pick up a fabulous new etude book recently? Dive right in! Did you hear a fantastic new piece at a recital? Pick up a copy of your own and start woodshedding. Dig out those exercises that always seem to stump you – You might find a better way to approach them this time.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will likely be practicing a few new pieces for an upcoming recital around the time of this New Moon. Bracket the sections that will need the most work. Create a tone color plan. Listen and play along to some of your favorite recordings. Take everything a bit slowly at first and gradually speed up as your master various sections.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will be addicted to practice when Venus moves signs. Play from the heart by adding a few favorite pieces from your past to your to-practice list. Can you breathe new life into these works? Are they ready to record onto social media? What do you learn about the piece when you change the tone colors?

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 10th house career goals. Venus will ask you to reexamine your career trajectory. Are you on a path that truly makes you happy? Sometimes we pursue goals given to us by well-meaning mentors along the way to help us become “real” flutists. Later on when we realize that these goals are either unachievable or do not really fulfill us, we often hit a career slump, or even a career crisis. Avoid this now by thinking about what you really want to be when you grow up. What is it about being involved with the flute world that makes you genuinely happy? Change up your goals by following you heart.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 11th house of group and communities. This is a good time to reexamine some of the performance groups that you are involved with. Perhaps you have outgrown a group. Perhaps the rehearsal schedule is just too draining in comparison to your other groups. Perhaps the environment is toxic and hurting your creativity. It is okay to step away from a group that no longer fits with your current lifestyle or interests. Make sure to avoid burning bridges and exit gracefully.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. Something in your environment is not quite working for you. Is it your home practice space? Change it up! Do you need soundproofing so your practice is not as disruptive for your family members. Start collecting bids, or, if brave, invest in soundproofing material and getting to work yourself. Update technology and invest in great new microphones and recording equipment. Do what you can to improve your space.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 11th house of group and communities. As one door closes, another opens. You may be auditioning to new performing groups when the Sun moves signs. Keep your options open and apply to everything. The worst they can say is no. You will still gain valuable audition experience.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 11th house of group and communities. You may find yourself with an offer to join a new performing group. Did you recently audition for a local symphony? That chair may soon be yours! Follow this gift from the Universe as it will open the doors needed to get to the next level in your flute playing career.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 11th house of group and communities. This is a good time to start your own chamber group. Invite your closest musician friends and read through some fun repertoire. Start discussing ideas for gigs – whether paid or not. Just have fun creating fun music with fun folks!

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Venus will encourage you to take a end-of-summer trip to somewhere beautiful. Take a hike in the woods before the weather turns cold. Have one last beach adventure. Snag off-season theme park tickets. Visit a friend out of town. Do something that brings a smile to your face.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 10th house of career goals. Mercury will ask you to consider your career goals. Make a list of all your short and long term flute goals. Are you on track with where you would like to be in 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years? If not, what action steps can you take to refocus your attention on your goals. Do you need to apply to a new job or take a new audition?  Starting making a plan.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 3rd house of communications. You may be experiencing a bit of writer’s block around the time of this Full Moon. Are you working on a book, article, or blog series? Take a step back and look at the larger picture. You may have veered off-track from your original message. Do you have way too many sub-chapters that do not connect well to your thesis? Save these for another related work or blog post tie-in.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 10th house of career goals. Your focus will shift again to your career when the Sun moves signs. Apply to new jobs! Now that you have clarified some of your long and short term goals, narrow your scope to jobs that will get you to that next level in your career. Give yourself a challenge and go for opportunities that may be right outside your reach. You might surprised by an employer willing to take a chance on a hard-working flutist like yourself.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. The Universe will likely reward you with a new job around the time of this New Moon. Follow this opportunity no matter how intimidating it may be. If you auditioned for a group you thought you had no chance in, you might be surprised with an offer. Take it! This job will open doors for you that you hadn’t thought were possible.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 10th house of career goals. Venus will encourage you to make the most out of this new job opportunity. Look the part by investing a few professional outfits for your first few rehearsals. Invest in a few gadgets to boost your in-rehearsal productivity. Share contact info with your section members and set up a get together in the not-so-distant future.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Venus will encourage you to invest in yourself. What does your dream flute look like? What bells and whistles would you like? Who is your favorite flute-maker? How out of the question is it to purchase this flute either now (on financing) or within a year? Two years? Venus will ask you to make a savings plan now.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 9th house of travel and higher education. A trip you had been planning may be postponed or even canceled when Mercury goes retrograde. Try to keep positive and instead book a bigger, better trip in future. Hawaii in the dead of winter? Yes please!

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. You may be saying goodbye to a job around the time of this Full Moon. Remember, as one door opens another one must close. Perhaps you were recently promoted to another position in another orchestra. Exit from your current gig gracefully and keep the door open for possible collaborations in the future.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Your attention will turn back onto travel when the Sun moves signs. Book that vacay in the future. Create your ideal itinerary. What shows would you like to attend? Sites would you like to see? People you would like to visit? Potential lessons you would like to take? Plan it out!

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. This New Moon suggests that you will indeed book your dream trip. Are there any gigs that you can also book while you are on vacay? Connect with any teachers you would like to take a lesson with or any old conductors you would like to meet for coffee. They may be able to help brainstorm flute projects for the future.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Venus will ask you to study something you have always wanted to learn about. What brings you joy outside of your flute life? Dive deep into the theory and practice of this activity. Are there any clever ways that you can incorporate it into your flute playing? Could you promote your ideas on social media?

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 7th house of relationships. Spend some time connecting with your most important flute friends at the beginning of the month. What are others working on? Do they have any upcoming performances? Any tours they are planning? Any books or articles they are working on? Are there any opportunities to collaborate on future projects?

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 8th house of banking and finance. Keep an eye on any loan, credit card, or other payment plans when Mercury goes retrograde. Mercury often creates chaos in banking systems when it goes retrograde. Make sure that all automatic payments are processed correctly well ahead of due dates. Act immediately if you see any mistakes in your account.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. Something in your flute life is just not working anymore. Are you burnt out on teaching? Do you find performing more frustrating than it is worth? This Full Moon is asking you to be a bit honest about which aspects of flute playing you enjoy and which ones you do not. End those tasks that you find draining to create more time doing what you love.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Your focus will shift onto large purchases when the Sun moves signs. Are you interested in purchasing a new flute? Or headjoint? Start creating a reasonable budget. What bells and whistles would you like? Which models are you looking at? Start window shopping.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. This New Moon will likely bring you the resources to purchase your dream flute sooner than you anticipated. Perhaps this is in the form off a gift from wealthy relative or a super easy financing opportunity through your banking institution or the instrument manufacture themselves. Remember to send a thank you card!

September 29th – Venus moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Venus will help you shop for the exact flute model you are looking for. Test out a number of instruments on various trial programs. Try models with and without the bells and whistles you are looking for. What style works best for you? Is there a particular metal that sounds best? Try both inline and off-set Gs. Venus loves to shop so have fun!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Venus will ask you to remove those daily responsibilities that drain you and replace them with activities that you love. Do you really enjoy practicing? Remove those draining committee meetings and order your groceries on a delivery serves to create more quality time with you, your flute, and Ibert.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 7th house of relationships. You may have a few disagreements with friends and colleagues when Mercury goes retrograde. Remember that your messages, both spoken and written, will likely be misunderstood at this time. Keep communications brief and to the point. Be patient with others if they are not hearing you. Forgive mistakes and other misunderstandings.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. A piece you have been practicing lately is just not coming together. You may have tried everything. Slowing it down. Practicing in chunks. Practicing in different meters and different key signatures. It is okay to switch to a different piece for a while or even stash in the back of your music collection. Come back to it at a later time.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 7th house of relationships. Your focus will shift onto the others in your life when the Sun moves signs. The Mercury Retrograde may have stirred up some harsh truths with some of your colleagues. Jealously may have reared its ugly head either on your part or on the part of others. Remember that jealousy is often just a hint from the Universe that you are ready for something more.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. You may make an important new friend or flute connection around time of this Full Moon. Reach out to another flutist that you admire. What advice do they have for you and your flute playing? Are there any collaborative opportunities available with the person?

September 29th – Venus moves into your 7th house of relationships. Venus will encourage you to spend some time with your loved ones at the end of the month. Are there any clever ways that you could invite them into your music-making process? Perhaps a mock audition or a living room concert? Let them have a role in your flute playing world.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Venus will encourage you to think outside the box when it comes to a creative project. Start brainstorming! Have you always wanted to compose? Write a melody that speaks to your heart. Add another line, a cadence or two here, and a wonderful countermelody there for balance. Let your imagination fly!

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Your schedule is about to become super unpredictable. Meetings will be canceled and rescheduled out of nowhere. Your students will randomly need to move their lesson times to much more difficult time slots. Extra rehearsals will be added without much warning. Just remember to be as flexible as possible. Nothing will be set in stone.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. This Full Moon might have you saying goodbye to one of your performing ensembles. Perhaps the rehearsal schedule conflicts with your other performing groups. Perhaps you have taken a role with another group. Remember to exit gracefully and keep the door open for future collaborations with your colleagues.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Your focus will shift to your out-of-control schedule when the Sun moves signs. The Mercury Retrograde may have uncovered a few spiders living under the rocks in your schedule. Perhaps a committee you are involved with is more time consuming than you realized. Perhaps you find yourself way too drained at the end of the day for proper meals, exercise, practice, and sleep. Reprioritize!

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. As if your schedule wasn’t crazy enough, this New Moon will add another responsibility to your life which you will not want to pass up. You may be asked to fill in as a sub for a colleague’s studio or orchestral seat. Even if it poses a time commitment, follow the lead of the Universe and go for it. This will open important doors in the future.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Venus will encourage you to add a bit of fun into your schedule at the end of the month. Remember fun? Spend some time away from your flute and your studio practice and simply go for a long hike on a mountain trail. Book a family game night. Invite your favorite flute friend out for margaritas. Just have fun!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 4th house of home and family.  Venus will ask you to beautify your home studio environment. Add a beautiful piece of art or a few colorful throw rugs. Update furniture and electronics. Treat yourself to a beautiful new wood-carved music stand. You could even move your space into a completely different room entirely to change things up.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 5th house of creativity and joy. When Mercury goes retrograde, you may find yourself in a creative slump. If you are working on a project, take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Where can you streamline some of your ideas? Is the scope of your project cohesive or do you need to make some edits? This is also a great time to show your work to a trusted colleague or advisor for a second set of eyes.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. This Full Moon will ask you to take a honest look at some of your career goals. You have likely fallen off track or have been pursing goals that do not really resonate with the flutist that you would truly like to be. Have you discovered that you just aren’t into teaching? It is okay to shift to a more performance-based lifestyle.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Your focus will shift back onto your creative project when the Sun moves signs. The Mercury Retrograde may have given you a wonderful lightbulb moment in your work. Have you found a hidden gem in your project that you weren’t expecting? Bring it out of the shadows.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. This New Moon may inspire a related creative endeavor based on your project. If you have removed sections of your work from your larger masterpiece, perhaps these sections can be separate works on their own. Explore the possibilities of smaller, more concentrated works.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Venus will help you promote your projects on various social outlets. Your ideas are very popular at this time. Drum up some interest with a Facebook or Instagram Live Q&A session. Talk about the creative process and where you see the future of your project going.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 3rd house of communications. What is it that you love about the flute? Write about it! Venus will encourage you start a flute blog series on your favorite aspects of flute playing. Perhaps you have a set of favorite flute composers or a collection favorite etude books. Just start writing.

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 4th house of home and family. You may have a few disagreements at home during this retrograde. Be careful with your words during this time as others may misinterpret your concern as control. Cancers love to care for their loved ones, sometimes to a fault. This Mercury Retrograde may ask you to practice a bit of patience and flexibility when it comes to your family.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. A trip you had been planning may be unexpectedly postponed or canceled around the time of this Full Moon. There may be forces at hand beyond your control. Like with your family, try to remain flexible. Instead, plan a bigger and better getaway for a future date.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 4th house of home and family. Your focus with shift onto your family with the Sun moves signs. Tempers may have erupted recently, revealing some harsh truths (perhaps even about your practice schedule). Discuss matter over a family picnic. Food often calms even the fiercest of tempers.

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. You may have worked out a few excellent solutions with your family, including moving your studio practice to an off-site location. This could indeed be a win-win. A studio location next to a music store could bring in more business and help keep your teaching hours on a more strict schedule so that you are home in time for family meals.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 4th house of home and family. After all of the strife and tension, Venus will ask you to book a fun family outing and just enjoy spending time together. Take your loved ones to the symphony. Catch a movie in the park or simply pack a Fall picnic to take to the beach. Leave your flute at home and have a great time!

Leo (July 23-August 22)

September 5th – Venus moves into your 2nd house of income. You will be very popular at work when Venus moves signs. This is the very best time to ask for a raise (or at least better part assignments from your conductor. Make the case for yourself. What unique skills and abilities do you bring to the table? What valuable transferable skills do you have that could help your organization grow?

September 9th – Mercury goes retrograde in your 3rd house of communications. It is never an easy time when the planet of communications goes retrograde in the house of communications. You may experience misunderstandings with virtually everybody in your life. Try to remain as calm and as flexible as possible at this time. Forgive those who argue with you (even your conductor) and keep communications as brief and polite as possible.

September 10th – A Full Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. You may be paying the final installment on your new flute. Congrats!! This Full Moon will help you to finalize all closeout paperwork. Remember that Mercury is still in retrograde, so make sure to keep copies of everything and double check that all automatic payments are posting correctly.

September 22nd – The Sun moves into your 3rd house of communications. Your focus will shift onto your various writing projects when the Sun moves signs. Are you writing a blog series or an article? Start by outlining and free writing some of your ideas. How would you like to structure your piece? What research will you need to perform?

September 25th – A New Moon appears in your 3rd house of communications. This is a great time to submit your article or book idea to a publisher. With the New Moon on your side, you just may receive an offer for publication in one off your favorite flute journals. Follow the lead of the editor if there are any required changes. Stay as flexible as possible with your writing. You will soon get a brand new audience of flutists interested in your work.

September 29th – Venus moves into your 3rd house of communications. Venus will encourage you to blog about what you love most about the flute. Do you have a favorite composer? Write about their life and works. Do you have some great practice tips? Devise a Top Ten list. Do you write poetry about being a flutist? Share it!
