DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES June 2023

by Rachel Taylor Geier

Welcome to June! The sun is out and summer vacay is starting up for everyone. There is a wonderful lightness in the air. Well, that is until mid-month, when Pluto goes retrograde. Pluto influences the way we think and the approach we take to life - the good, the bad, and the ugly. When Pluto goes retrograde, we enter into a time of reevaluation. There is a deepness which, left without an action plan, can turn into heaviness. Record your reflections during this time in a journal. You might have some great insights about how you can change your life for the better in the months ahead. Pluto will nudge you into a different direction. Follow that nudge. Venus and Mars are also coupling again, urging you to make progress on any passion projects. As the song goes, “If it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad!” Keep things light even during periods of heavy reflection this month. You are creating a better world for yourself, even if just in your imagination.

Gemini (May 21-June 20) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

June 3rd - A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. It is time to reevaluate some of the more complicated relationships in your life. Do you have a student that does not practice no matter how you try to incentivize their efforts? It may be time to institute mandatory practice cards and have a serious chat about practice expectations. Try to listen to their side of the story. Are they over-committed in other areas? Come up with a reasonable plan moving forward.

June 5th - Venus joins Mars in your 3rd house of communications. This is a great time to write about something you are passionate about. Do you have a flute blog yet? This would be a great time to set one up and write about the works you will be performing at your next recital. Analyze these pieces and discuss the background of the composer. Tell us what inspired you to choose the work and what you hope your audience will take away from your performance.

June 11th - Mercury moves into your 1st house of identity, joining the Sun. Mercury will encourage you to ask for exactly what you want when he moves signs. What are your flute goals this year? Is “buying a new” flute on your agenda? Or would you like to attend a workshop or conference? Start taking the first steps. Schedule meetings to discuss your options with others and what may be possible on your timeline.

June 11th - Pluto goes retrograde in your 8th house of banking and finance. Pluto will ask you to completely rethink your finances. Look carefully at what you are spending each month. Are there easy ways to cut expenses on subscriptions you rarely use? Can you curb your coffee addiction or workout from home rather than pay gym dues? What does your savings and retirement plans look like? Start reframing the way you think about money.

June 18th - A New Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. The New Moon will bring in some wonderful new opportunities for you in your flute life. Sometimes the result of asking for exactly what you want is that you get it! Take any job interviews or auditions around this time. Make a case for yourself - Why are you the best flutist for this job? Let the Universe work its magic.

June 21st - The Sun moves into your 2nd house of income. The Sun will shift the focus onto your job when it moves signs. You may be accepting a new job or a promotional opportunity at your current position. Don’t spend your raise all in one place!

June 26th - Mercury moves into your 2nd house of income. This is a great time to advocate for a new project idea to your supervisor. You have a great idea for a concert series that will likely generate a bit more income than usual and you need their buy-in. Present your idea clearly, with well-researched evidence and concrete numbers. You will likely be the spokesperson for this venture so make sure to advocate in the best way possible.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

June 3rd - A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You are about to walk away from a responsibility that takes up a lot of your time for not that rewarding of a result. Your time is precious. Your time is valuable. This Full Moon wants you to stop giving it away to causes and activities that don’t really serve you. Ask yourself what in your weekly calendar you dread the most. Then decline the next meeting or reassign it to somebody else.

June 5th - Venus joins Mars in your 2nd house of income. This is a great time to ask for a raise. Make the case to your conductor that you deserve more challenging parts or even a feature solo. If they say no, ask how you can eventually get there. You have clear goals and Venus and Mars want you to absolutely crush them!

June 11th - Mercury moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities, joining the Sun. Mercury wants you to consider new practice routines. Change things up! Research alternative methods and different ways to organize your time. Try incorporating mini practice sessions throughout the day. Practice during the commercial break of your favorite TV show. Break out of your status quo for a change.

June 11th - Pluto goes retrograde in your 7th house of relationships. Pluto will ask you some difficult questions about your relationship with your colleagues. Things have become difficult with a colleague or two. One of you may feel bullied by the other. The communication may have turned negative due to competitive bickering. Try to work things out. Clear the air over Frappuccinos.

June 18th - A New Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. The New Moon will inspire you to start sight-reading new repertoire for your next recital. Practice all of the things. Take a deep dive on YouTube watching videos of pieces you have always loved but have been too intimidated to practice. They may be easier that you realize.

June 21st - The Sun moves into your 1st house of identity. Your focus will shift onto your most important goals when the Sun moves signs. Use this time to reconsider your New Year’s Resolutions from January. Are you on track to accomplishing some of the things you intended to work on six months ago? Where have you fallen off-course? Do you still resonate with the same goals you had back then?

June 26th - Mercury moves into your 1st house of identity. Now that you have clarified some of your goals and perhaps added a few new ones, Mercury will help you make the connections you need to tackle the next steps. Do you need to hire an accompanist? Make a few calls and send a few emails. Do you need to expand your studio? Connect with a local instrument shop to advertise your lessons.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

June 3rd - A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. This Full Moon will ask you one simple question: Are you happy? If flute playing doesn’t actually make you happy, you will need to be honest with yourself about what place it should have in your life moving forward. If you don’t love something, don’t keep doing it out of obligation to somebody else. Be true to your own self. If you really do love playing the flute, brainstorm simple ways to do more flute activities in the days and weeks ahead.

June 5th - Venus joins Mars in your 1st house of identity. Venus wants you to treat yo’ self! This is a great time to do some shopping. Window shop a few new flute models or fun add-ons to your current instrument. Would you like to add a bejeweled crown? Or try out an e-facilitator key? Do you need a flashy new flute bag? Shop ‘till you drop!

June 11th - Mercury moves into your 11th house of groups and communities, joining the Sun. This is a great time to host a sectional. Gather your flute section together and hash out some of those tricky runs slowly together. Patiently tune those pesky high G’s. Agree on a vibrato speed that doesn’t just work for the section leader. Open up discussion on interpretation to the larger group.

June 11th - Pluto goes retrograde in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Pluto will ask you to completely overhaul your daily and weekly schedule. Chances are you have committed to way too many things in your life. You are feeling burnt out and unable to continue at the pace you’ve set for yourself given the demands of everybody else. Time to break out that red pen and revise your schedule.

June 18th - A New Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. Audition for a new group around the time of this Full Moon. You are in need of a challenging new ensemble to perform with. Better yet, start your own group. Does your community have a flute choir? If not, start one! Audition potential flutists and book a couple of sight-reading sessions.

June 21st - The Sun moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Your focus will shift onto the practice room when the Sun moves signs. Start practicing all of the things when the Sun moves signs. Interested in adding a new method book to  your collection? Buy it and start reading through it! Want to learn how to play interesting electrical-acoustic pieces? Explore some repertoire and ask an expert for some tips.

June 26th - Mercury moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. This is a great time to write about some of the pieces you are practicing on your flute blog. Or, better yet, record a few tracks for your YouTube channel. Mercury wants you to share your learning process with a larger audience. Dissect it. Talk about the challenges and opportunities. Discuss future goals.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

June 3rd - A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. Time for late spring cleaning and home renovations! Your home studio is a huge mess and in need of a serious overhaul. Update all furniture. Buy a super solid music stand. Invest in a new computer with some great music software. If in the budget, knock out a closet and add a full length window to better enjoy the view while you practice.

June 5th - Venus joins Mars in your 12th house behind-the-scenes activities. Venus and Mars will ask you to practice all of the things when they join forces at the beginning of the month. This is a great time to sight-read new repertoire for your next recital. Venus will help you differentiate the diamonds from the duds. Be ruthless in your decisions! If a piece doesn’t resonate with you, move on to the next one. Create a program truly reflective of who you are and what you love.

June 11th - Mercury moves into your 10th house of career goals, joining the Sun. This is the very best time to update your CV, spruce up your standard cover letter, and completely revamp your website. You are about to hit the job market in a big way! Be ready to shine to potential employers and students.

June 11th - Pluto goes retrograde in your 5th house of creativity and joy. Pluto wants you to reconsider what truly makes you happy. A good way to go about this is to create a happiness inventory. Write down all of the things you do that involve your flute playing or music in general during a typical week. Give each item a 1-10 happiness ranking. For any activities that earn a 5 and below, cut them from your life. Activities that earn 7-5 consider reducing or eliminating. Activities ranked 10-8 require more space in your life! Fill up your time with these activities as much as possible.

June 18th - A New Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. This New Moon is about to bring a wonderful new job opportunity into your life. Cut out anything that seems unnecessary or that doesn’t really add substance to your work.

June 5th - Venus joins Mars in your 11th house of groups and communities. Venus and Mars will have you knee deep in rehearsals at the beginning of the month. Make sure to take breaks and plan for extra travel time between gigs. You will be busy and you won’t have much time for the essentials (eating, sleeping, exercise) if you don’t  plan ahead. You’ll want to save your energy to absolutely crush it in rehearsals!

June 11th - Mercury moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education, joining the Sun. Start planning your summer vacay when Mercury moves signs. Find opportunities to take a break from the grind and have some fun.

June 11th - Pluto goes retrograde in your 4th house of home and family. Pluto wants you to completely reimagine your home environment. This may mean shopping for a new house. Dare to enjoy your flute life! The Universe wants you to be happy.

This is a great time to sit down with a financial advisor and work out a reasonable savings or loan program for a major purchase. Are you considering purchasing a new flute in the near future? June 11th - Pluto goes retrograde in your 3rd house of communications. Pluto will ask you to rethink some of your most important writing activities. Do you have a flute blog? Your contact might have some great ideas of alternate paths to take.

June 11th - Pluto goes retrograde in your 2nd house of income. You may be in a job right now that feels overwhelming and draining. This Pluto retrograde will ask you to reevaluate your day job. If you aren’t enjoying it, look for other opportunities in different areas. A job is not a life-sentence. Replace them with creative, kooky, and off-the wall ideas that nobody has thought of yet.
