DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES September 2023

Happy September! Fall is often a frenzied season with the onset of a new school year. Luckily, this month both Venus and Mercury will be going direct helping to drive the overall momentum onward and upward. This newfound energy and ambition will help you tackle that ever-expanding to-do list, aided by a little help from the Sun and Mars joining forces mid-month. Projects can now move forward with ease. A Full Moon at the end of the month will ask you to end things that no longer serve you. Move on to better and brighter things this month!

Virgo (August 23-September 22) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. This is a great time to reexamine your psychological practice blockages. What keeps you from practicing that super difficult piece or tackling that technical passage that you are super scared of? Fear be gone – This month, just do it!

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. This New Moon will ask you to reinvent yourself as a flutist. You don’t have to be the same musician you were yesterday, playing the same pieces for the same crowd. Think bigger and prepare yourself to step into a brighter spotlight.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 1st house of identity. Mercury wants you to schedule a recital. Just set it up and start prepping. It may be scary to take this first step. Follow the queues of the Universe – It is leading you down a new and exciting path.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 2nd house of income. The Sun and Mars will urge you to apply to new jobs. Start sprucing up your CV, cleaning up your excerpts, and putting yourself out there. Your dream flute job is just around the corner.

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. You may be making the final payment on a new flute or paying the bill for a recent overhaul. Nice work! Enjoy your super fancy upgrade with a few much-needed selfies on social media.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 11th groups and communities. Venus will ask you to reconsider your role in your performing groups. Are you happy? Are your colleagues truly a “tribe” or do they bring down your confidence and/or interest in playing the flute. If the later, find a new tribe this month.

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. This is a great time to practice a few new pieces in preparation for an upcoming recital. Think strategically and take your time with super challenging repertoire. You’ve got this!

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Mercury will help you nail down those pieces you have been perusing in the practice room into an actual recital program. You’ve finally got your line up! Take this a step further and discuss some of the background and ins and outs of your pieces on your flute blog! Dive deep into your chosen works.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 1st house of identity. The Sun and Mars will urge you to completely reinvent yourself and your flute playing. You are in a position to achieve all of your goals as long as you stick to a plan. Create your plan and start taking the first steps this month!

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. You may be letting go of a toxic relationship at the end of the month, or at least changing it for the better. Is there a colleague that you do not see eye to eye with? Invite them out for coffee and talk it out!

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 10th house of career goals. You have likely come out of period of reflection about your flute career and may have even designed a few flute-playing bucket list items. Venus wants you to take the first steps on these items. Send out the resume, book the audition, and schedule the recital.

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be joining a new orchestra around the time of this New Moon. Congratulations – you won the audition! Put your best food forward and make connections with your new colleagues. There may be more collaborative opportunities in the near future.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 11th house of groups and communities. Although you may have already joined one new group, there is another group vying for your attention. Newsflash: You won BOTH auditions. If you can swing it without burning out, join both! The connections you make in these ensembles will last a lifetime.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Your focus will be on practicing literally everything when the Sun moves signs. Mars is there to give you the energy to tackle all of those difficult orchestral passages, crazy new recital pieces, and challenging new techniques. Go for it!

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. In order to give yourself enough time for rehearsals and concerts for both new groups you have recently joined, you will need to cut a couple of things out of your life that are more distracting than productive. Redelegate committee responsibilities to students or younger professionals looking for new opportunities. Look for win-wins to free up time in your schedule.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) 

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 9th house of travel and higher education. There may be an area of study that you tried to delve into several years ago but abandoned for one reason or another. Venus is asking you to give it another try. This could be a language course or even learning a new instrument. 

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. The New Moon will likely bring a new job opportunity into your purview. Check job postings and audition boards around this time. There is a great opportunity for you! Don’t think, just apply.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 10th house of career goals. Mercury will inspire you to completely rework your resume and cover letter. I know that sounds mundane, but it is all in preparation to hit the job market in a major way. You are ready for a new challenge in your career. Go for jobs you think are out of realm of possibility - You may surprise yourself.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be joining a new performing group when the Sun moves signs. Congrats - You won the audition! Now the hard work begins. Get ready for an intense rehearsal schedule - You’ve got this!

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. A creative project you have been working on may hit a snafu around the time of this Full Moon. Perhaps your project has spiraled out of control. Explore practical ways to streamline your ideas so they appeal to more people.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 8th house of banking and finance. If you have recently taken out a loan or placed a large purchase on a credit card (new flute, anyone?), you may be receiving a gift or other financial resource to help you pay a large chunk of your bill. This is for sure a gift from the Universe! Remember to send an appropriate thank you note to your benefactor!

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. You may be planning a trip around the time of this New Moon. Are you traveling to a masterclass? Or scoring tickets to a very important concert? Shop around for your best travel deals and make sure to design a super interesting itinerary.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 9th house of travel and higher education. Mercury will ask you to take a writing course or take part in a writing workshop. You may have some great ideas for a flute blog series but are unsure where to begin. Time to get some pointers and share your drafts!

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 10th house of career goals. Your focus will shift onto your career when the Sun moves signs. Mars will help you apply to literally all of the jobs. Cast a wide net and apply to any teaching postings or audition calls. Your next opportunity might already be out there!

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. Something in your environment is undergoing a serious change at the end of the month. Are you moving? If not, are you at least moving your teaching location? You might try exploring local instrument shops to see if they are looking for a local teacher to add to their roster.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 7th house of relationships. An old colleague may reach out to you at the beginning of the month. Use this time to catch up and discuss any collaborative opportunities. How can you pool your creative talents into a super awesome performance or project?

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. This New Moon may encourage you to drop some serious coin on a major purchase. Shop for that new flute! What are your dream specs? What is your budget?

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 8th house of banking and finance. Mercury will ask you to contact a few instrument retailers to explore financing agreements on new instruments. You definitely want something new, but you also want to consider your current budget and what makes sense for you at this juncture. What can you reasonably afford?

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 9th house of travel and higher education. You will likely be starting a new course of study when the Sun moves signs. Are you going back to school? Or starting a night course or online seminar? Mars will help you start on the right foot. You will be super caught up on any homework assignments in no time and can even begin to work ahead. Be an informational sponge!

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 3rd house of communication. You may be experiencing writer’s block at the end of the month. Working on a book, article, blog series, or any other writing project? Use this time to perform some serious proof-reading on your work. Streamline what can be streamlined.

Pisces (February 19-March 20) 

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Venus wants you to stop working so hard and enjoy life just a bit more. Have you spent way too much time in the practice room lately? When was the last time you went for a walk in nature or spent a few minutes meditating? Self-care is important!

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. You will make an important new connection around the time of this Full Moon. Reach out to a flutist you admire. Schedule an informational interview to pick their brains about all your most pressing flute questions.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 7th house of relationships. This is a great time to reach out to all of your most important flute friends, new and old. What are folks working on? When is their next performance? Are there any creative ways to pool your talents? Set up meetings to discuss.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 8th house of banking and finance. You may be inspired to check out new flutes when the Sun and Mars join forces. Pop on down to your local flute shop and try out the latest models. What bells and whistles do you really enjoy? Are there great add-ons available? Which models and/or brands fit best into your budget?

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. You may be offered a new job or promotion around the time of this Full Moon. Congrats! You won the audition. Follow this nudge from the Universe and accept the position, no matter how intimidated you are or how many times you try to talk yourself out of it. This will open important doors for you in the future.

Aries (March 21-April 19) 

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 5th house of creativity and joy. Reconnect to why you love playing the flute. What is it about the flute, flute playing, teaching, etc. that really brings you joy? You may have been feeling a bit like a hamster on a wheel lately. Venus wants you to instead turn your attention toward the flute activities that you truly love.

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You will likely be asked to serve on a committee or judge a competition around the time of this New Moon. This is a super important opportunity that you will not want to pass up. Rearrange your schedule to make space for this activity.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Schedule all of the meetings when Mercury goes direct. Do you have make-up lessons to schedule? Do you need to meet with parents to discuss student practice expectations? Do you need to have a chat with your orchestra conductor? Book it and get it all done this month.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 7th house of relationships. The Sun and Mars want you to flex your networking skills and meet new friends. Are there any music conferences in your area? Are there any online masterclasses you can attend? Sign up! You will make a number of important new connections at these events.

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. This Full Moon is going to ask you to be very honest with one of your most important goals. Are you prepping for a recital and concerned that you may not be ready by the recital date? Postpone it. Change the date. People will understand and still be stoked to attend when you are ready.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 4th house of home and family. Venus will encourage you to spend some quality time with your loved ones at the beginning of the month. Leave your flute in its case and take the boat out to the lake. Live up the last of the summer sun.

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may be inspired to work on a super interesting creative project around the time of the New Moon. Do you have a great idea for a new composition or a lecture recital? Start drafting your best ideas.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 5th house of creativity and joy. With all of these ideas circling in your head, your next best step is to contact a trusted advisor or coach to separate the good ones from the impractical ones. Talk it out! What are the next best steps?

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You will be extremely busy when the Sun couples with Mars. Your to-do list is a mile long and everybody seems to need something from you. Rehearsals, performance, you name it, it is bound to be on your calendar. Luckily, Mars will be there to give the energy to conquer everything and then some.

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You are about to cancel a piece you’ve been struggling with in the practice room. You’ve had it with this piece! It is totally okay to table it and find a piece that resonates better with your playing style.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 3rd house of communication. Venus wants you to write about what you love. Do you have a flute blog? This is a great time to start one. Talk about your most cherished memories about past performances or lessons that really shaped your life as a flutist. What did you learn along the way? Share it with others.

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. Are you moving to a new house or apartment? This New Moon suggests that your environment is about to change for the better! How can you breathe new life into your home studio spaces?

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 4th house of home and family. This is a great time to have a family meeting. Schedules are about to become cray cray as the new school year kicks off. Make sure to work out any conflicts between rehearsals, various sporting events, and other responsibilities. Plan for some fun outings in the spaces in between.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You are about to get a burst of inspiration and productive energy from the Sun and Mars. If you were ever curious about composing, this is a great time to put pen to manuscript paper and just start writing. Let your creativity pour out. Edit your work later.

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be saying goodbye to a performing group at the end of the month. Chances are you have joined a competing group with conflicting rehearsal schedules. Remember to exit gracefully and keep connections with former colleagues strong. You never know when opportunities to collaborate will arise in the future.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 2nd house of income. Venus will inspire you to apply to a job you really want. This could be a teaching position with an institution you adore or an orchestra whose players are the cream of the crop. Even if you think you aren’t qualified, go for it anyways. You might be surprised by what the Universe has in store for you.

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 3rd house of communication. This is a great time to start writing a book or article about the flute. Is there a composer you admire? Do you have a great practice or teaching tip that you would love to share with the World. Start drafting your ideas.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 3rd house of communication. When the planet of communication goes direct in the house of communication, you will be inspired to write, write, write, and then write some more. Outline your ideas. What musical examples will you use and in what order?

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 4th house of home and family. Your focus will be on your home when the Sun and Mars pair up. This is a great time to tackle any of those home studio repair projects. Replace broken cabinets, chairs, and update any old computers, printers, or any other technology. Add an inspirational piece of art or a beautiful painting for added Zen.

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. You may be making a career shift at the end of the month. Have you come out of a period of self-reflection about your career? Are you ready to shift from a teaching life to a performing life? This Full Moon will give you the final push to change your career and go for the flute life that you actually want.

Leo (July 23-August 22) 

September 5th – Venus goes direct in your 1st house of identity. Venus will encourage you to get a makeover. This could be a makeover for your recital wear (invest in something new!) or your flute (upgrade with a pretty crown), or your flute identity. What makes you unique as a flutist? How can you flaunt your unique voice on a larger stage?

September 14th – A New Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. You will likely receive a job offer or promotion around the time of this New Moon. Congrats! You won the audition! Starting prepping for your new opportunity now so you can make a great first impression on your new colleagues.

September 15th – Mercury goes direct in your 2nd house of income. Mercury will give you the courage to ask for what you know you deserve at your job. Are you ready to tackle more principal parts in your orchestra? Make your case to your conductor. You are poised for this exciting new challenge.

September 23rd – The Sun joins Mars in your 3rd house of communication. When the Sun and Mars join forces, you will be writing up a storm. Do you have a flute blog yet? This is the perfect time to start one! What do you love about the flute? Write about it! Start by brainstorming 5-10 topic ideas. Then get to writing!

September 29th – A Full Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. You may need to cancel a trip you had been planning at the end of the month. Perhaps your schedule has just spiraled out of control. Or maybe you joined a group whose concert schedule does not jive with your trip. It’s totally okay to postpone. Make it a bigger and better trip at a later date.
