New Album Feature: Michael Mason’s “Impermanence”

Michael Mason, Bill Batzkall & AVG Records have released his 2023 recording project “Impermanence,” which is a follow-up from the 2022 “Transcendence” and the 2021 “Human Revolution” projects, which are all original jazz and world music compositions.

Michael Mason has been in the professional music industry for (40) years and has lead off for Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, had master classes with James Newton, the influence and association with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, performed with New Orleans Saxophonist Edward “Kidd” Jordan and  Chicago’s legendary Fred Anderson, collaborated with James Galway and many artists from the legendary AACM organization.

Michael Mason has been in the fire service for (38) years and is Retired Lieutenant Michael Mason of the Downers Grove, Illinois Fire Department. He is one of the first responders from the Chicago area who flew to New York City just days after the destruction of the World Trade Center Towers and worked with the New York City Fire Department and Port Authority for many weeks. You can read more about his firefighting efforts at WWW.RICOFIRERESCUE.COM his “Angels of Fire” year 2000 recording project is dedicated to the (92) students and (3) Catholic Nuns who perished in the tragic “Our Lady of the Angels” Catholic School Fire on December 1, 1958 were Michael Mason was a first-grade student where he was lead out of the school by a firefighter which eventually lead him to become a firefighter.  Over the past (10) plus years he has taught thousands of recruits at the Fire Academy to become first responders and has taught veterans how to save each other at the scene of any type of tragic incident. 

  

Michael Mason plays 18Karat & 14Karat Rose Gold Flutes from Miyazawa, Muramatsu, and Nagaraha Flute Companies and Hang Drums/Hand Pans from Pantheon Steel, SARAZ, Zenith, and RAV Vast.

Michael’s musical influences come from James Newton, Ian Anderson, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Sun Ra, Yusef Lateef, James Galway, and the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians).

He receives airplay from “The World Jazz Show Podcast”, College/ University, NPR, and Independent Jazz Stations around the world. He has performed at Colleges and Universities, International Jazz Festivals, the NACA (National Association of Campus Activities), Regional and National Convention Mainstage and Performing Arts showcases.

He is available for College and University Performances, Artist-In-Residency Programs, Clinics, Workshops, Individual Improvisation Teaching, Concerts and Recording Sessions.
