Tarnovia Flute Summer Festival in Poland June 28 to July 5, 2025
Artistic Director, Natalia Jarzbek shares about her upcoming Flute Festival in Tarnovia, Poland June 28th- July 5th.
Tell us about your Festival, background history, why did you start it? What was your inspiration?
Tarnovia Flute Summer is a week-long flute summer school, organised in Tarnów, close to Kraków, Poland. This year we have organised the second edition. In 2024 we hosted over 60 participants from all over the world. We are inviting a great flute authorities to run masterclasses, such as Mario Caroli, Ian Clarke, Matvey Demin, Viviana Guzmán, Jelka Weber, Mario Notaristefano, Beatriz Macias, and many others. We also offer many workshops and lecturer, such as circular breathing, piccolo, flute choir, chamber ensembles, orchestral excerpts, contemporary techniques etc.
The idea was created by the Polish music company Jarmula Music, located in Tarnów. We wanted to create a big flute event, which has a concept of a week-long summer school - because I know from my past perspective as a student, that it’s the most progressing way of masterclasses.
What do you like best about it?
The atmosphere of being in the group of people, who love the same as me - to play the flute.
When is it and who are the guest artists?
This year we meet between June 28 to July 5, 2025. For the following years, we are planning a similar concept of the first week of July.
This year we are inviting Ian Clarke with his wife Caroline (who is also a flutist and an outstanding yoga instructor - we will combine those 2 professions), Matvey Demin, Mario Notaristefano, Viviana Guzmán, Christian Bach with a huge Miyazawa exhibition, Tobias Mancke and many other Polish artists and exhibitors.
When are the concerts? Programs?
Concerts are on Sunday, June 29th (opening concert - flute quartet with my friends from Kraków Philharmonic), Wednesday, July 2nd (concert of participants + flute choir conducted by Viviana Guzmán), July 3rd (master concert - recital of Matvey Demin, Mario Notaristefano and Tomasz Sierant) and July 4th (closing ceremony concert - Ian Clarke as a soloist, conductor and composer with flute ensembles and the flute choir).
What are your goals with this year’s festival?
To make everybody happy and to let people to learn a lot, and to come back inspired to work and improve for the following months.
