Creatio Jewelry & Trinkets by Pija Hočevar
Award-winning flutist Pija Hočevar channels her vibrant musical passion into stunning handmade jewelry. After inspiring audiences and students across Europe, she now lives in the US, where she actively performs, teaches, and creates jewelry that sparks love, joy, and confidence.
How did you start this venture?
In the summer of ’23, I moved from Europe to the US to support my husband’s scientific journey at California Institute of Technology and to experience a new continent, culture, and chapter in life.
Relocating brought unexpected challenges. Despite being a seasoned traveler, I felt disoriented and disconnected in a culture that didn’t quite feel like home. For a while, I found myself stuck — unable to move forward with performing, teaching, or continuing my studies. Eventually, I stopped pushing and gave myself space to imagine new possibilities. That’s when the seed of a new idea started to grow. I asked myself: What can I do that’s creative, exciting to learn, tied to music — and something I can build with my own hands? That’s when a few “lucky coincidences” started to point me in a new direction.
I started thinking about jewelry — not because I had a passion for wearing it, but actually because I didn’t. Most jewelry I owned was uncomfortable, caused allergic reactions, or broke easily. I often felt clumsy or dull when wearing it. That’s when an idea struck: What if I created jewelry that was hypoallergenic, feather-light, durable, and vibrant — something that felt good and looked beautiful?
At the same time, my husband got a 3D printer for his lab work. He encouraged me to try it out, and although the technical side felt daunting, I was curious. Learning the design software and tools was challenging, but also exciting.
The final push came when someone I trust reminded me that my hands have always held certain vibrations — of unconditional love and healing energy. I’ve felt this while playing the flute, cooking, connecting with animals, or simply making things. That message gave me the confidence to follow my instinct.
That’s how Creatio by Pija was born: handmade, 3-D printed jewelry infused with love, confidence, and joy!
Do you have a history of making jewelry?
None! But I grew up in a creative, hands-on family where solving problems and figuring things out was part of everyday life. I like to joke that I earned a “Versatility Diploma” long before any formal ones.
What made you decide to offer these beautiful designs to others?
As I began designing pieces for myself, I realized how repetitive and uninspired many existing music-themed accessories are. There’s so much out there — but most of it looks the same.
That’s when I knew I could offer something fresh. I wanted designs that felt bold, elegant, and personal — something I would proudly wear on stage or in everyday life. Pieces that make you feel confident, expressive, and joyful.
And I think I’ve done that! I always receive compliments when wearing Creatio accessories — and so do my customers.
