Yubeen Kim’s Triumphant Tenure Appointment as San Francisco Symphony’s Principal Flute

This significant milestone in Kim's career was revealed on June 26, during the final weeks of the Symphony's 23/24 season, which featured among others, the grandiose Mahler Symphony No. 3, as well as the iconic Beethoven 5th Symphony and the riveting, Shostakovich 5th Symphony.
Yubeen Kim's journey to this prestigious position has been nothing short of extraordinary. Prior to this, he served as the Principal Flute at the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, a role in which he garnered immense acclaim. His exceptional talent is well-documented, with accolades that include winning 1st Prize at the 2022 ARD International Music Competition, 1st Prize at the 2015 Prague Spring International Music Competition, and 2nd Prize at the 2014 Geneva International Music Competition.
Kim began his appointment with the San Francisco Symphony in January 2024, marking the start of an intense and rewarding probation year. The Symphony's rigorous programming provided him with ample opportunity to showcase his virtuosity, starting with his debut performance featuring Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5.
