DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES March 2021

Welcome to March! Spring is in the air and optimism is in the heavens. All of the major planets are moving forward this month. If any of your projects have been stalled, or if the Mercury Retrograde last month asked you to revise your plans unexpectedly, you may see things start to move back in the right direction. Mars will inspire you roll up your sleeves and get to work (or practicing, as the case may be), while Mercury will ask you to share your thoughts with a larger audience of adoring fans. Use the energy of this month to make major progress on all of your most important ambitions.


Pisces (February 19-March 20) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 4th house of home and family. Time for some Spring cleaning! Rearrange the furniture in your home studio space. Reorganize your music. If you have wanted to scan your scores onto a thumb drive, Mars will help give you the motivation to get to work.

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. Reinvent your flute playing during this Full Moon. Record yourself performing a couple of your favorite excerpts. What can you do to take your sound or technique to the next level? Are there any upgrades that you can make to your flute or equipment to drastically change your playing? Treat yourself!

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 1st house of identity. If you do not yet have a flute blog, this is a great time to start one. Discuss your musical journey. When did you start playing? What are your most pivotal musical experiences? What are your favorite pieces and why? Write about why you love the flute and share you story with the World.

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 2nd house of income. Spruce up your CV a bit, dust off your excerpts, and apply to a few new jobs. The Sun is encouraging you to step out of the shadows and go for that promotional opportunity that you may think is right outside of your grasp. You may surprise yourself!

March 21st – Venus moves into your 2nd house of income. It is likely that you will be asked for an interview or invited to an audition for a great new opportunity. Venus will help you dazzle your audience! Prep for the spotlight by rehearsing your best answers to some of the more standard interview questions (in your most authentic voice, of course!).

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. You may be making the final payment on a loan or paying off your credit card statement after making a rather large purchase (did you buy a new flute recently?). Congrats! Make sure to cross all of the t’s and dot the i’s on any final closeout paperwork.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 3rd house of communication. Your ruler, Mars, has a lot to say at the beginning of the month! Schedule any meetings that you had otherwise been putting off during the Mercury Retrograde. It is time to let others know what you need from them in order to move forward. This is also a great time to write!  Do you have a good idea for a book or article? Start drafting!

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You may have recently come across a new, interesting piece of music that you would like to learn (even if just for fun). This New Moon will encourage you to take a stab at it in the practice room. Think creatively about ways to make the technical bits not so intimidating (slow it down, practice in chunks, etc.) and pour your heart out in the melodic sections. This piece will breathe new life into your playing.

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. If you have a flute blog, this is a great time to discuss some of your most cherished practice techniques in a series of posts. Write about some of the approaches you are testing out in the practice room. What works? What doesn’t (and why)? You may even be inspired to write an article about some of your ideas!

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 1st house of identity. You have probably just been through a period of reflection during last month’s Mercury Retrograde. What did you learn about yourself? What did you learn about your flute playing? When the Sun moves into your 1st house, you will be inspired to take some action! Create a new practice plan and aim higher.

March 21st – Venus moves into your 1st house of identity. Venus will be there to help you attract all of the resources you need to reinvent your flute playing. Is it a fantastic new piece of repertoire? Venus will take you shopping. Is it an inspirational new flute teacher? Venus will connect you to an outstanding flutist. Is it a new job opportunity? Venus will help you network with the right people.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships.  Is there a toxic relationship in your environment? A competitive colleague in orchestra? A student that does not practice? This Full Moon will help you have those difficult conversations. Something will need to change in order to move forward. Remember to remain honest yet reasonable.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 2nd house of income. You will be very busy at work when Mars moves into your 2nd house. Schedule all of your make-up lessons during this time and complete any committee work that you may be involved in. Mars will give you the energy to get all of your tasks completed, even the more mundane ones. Reward yourself for tackling that crazy to-do list!

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and activities. You may be asked to sub for a band or orchestra program in your community. This is the beginning of a wonderful work relationship! Put your best foot forward because you will likely be asked to return to this group and eventually may even be rewarded with a permanent position. Nice work! 

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 11th house of groups and activities. Mercury will ask you to do a bit of networking with the members of the ensemble that you may be subbing for. What other ensembles do they perform with? Are they in any smaller chamber groups? Most importantly, are there any opportunities to collaborate (perhaps in a new chamber group)? Exchange contact info!

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will be spending a lot of time in the practice room when the Sun moves signs. This is a good opportunity to really deconstruct the repertoire you are working on. Practice the technical bits very slowly with a metronome and speed up gradually each day. Practice your music in smaller chunks. Rewrite it! Transpose it!

March 21st – Venus moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Venus will help you practice from the heart. Take some time during each practice session to play something that you love. It may be a beautiful melody that brings back wonderful memories or a virtuosic passage that makes you feel like a million bucks. Add this bit of self-care into your routine.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. The Full Moon will ask you to take a critical look at your daily schedule. You may be stretched pretty thin between your work responsibilities, your practice routine, time with your family, and exercise regime. What can you delegate to others? Create a realistic schedule for yourself to achieve a better sense of balance in your life.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 1st house of identity. Mars will ask you to clear your schedule and reimagine your to-do list. As an air sign, you may not like keeping a traditional to-do list as tasks often seem to materialize out of, well, thin air. Mars wants you instead to think about your most important goals and activities. What can you cut out of your daily responsibilities to devote more time to the things that truly matter to you?

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. As you think a bit more critically about your goals, you may be inspired apply to jobs that are more in line with your most important ambitions. Go for the gold! Apply to jobs that may seem well above your experience - You might surprise yourself. The New Moon just may bring you a perfect job opportunity in the coming weeks.

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 10th house of career goals. This is a great time to schedule any interviews, auditions, or any other networking meetings with potential employers. Be honest about where you would like to go in your flute-playing.  What types of groups would you like to perform with? Where would you like to teach? Be open to any constructive criticism. It may hurt to hear some of these things now, but the work you put into improving these items will pay off tenfold in the future.

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. You may win a position in a local orchestra when the Sun moves signs. Congrats! You won the audition. Nice work! Make the most out of this opportunity. This will be a good fit for you and will open many other doors for you in the future.

March 21st – Venus moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. You will be in the spotlight in your new ensemble with Venus on your side. Have you been given a very important solo? Play it out! Leave your nerves at the front door and be a fierce flutist! You will likely make a great impression on your colleagues and conductor.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may be working on a creative project that seems a bit stuck. The Full Moon will help you reassess. Is your timeline unreasonable? Rearrange your schedule a bit. Can you cut out a few things to better streamline your project? For example, if you are composing a piece of music, can you cut a few repetitive passages or rethink the need for that second movement?

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Mars will have you practicing all of the things at the beginning of the month. This is a great time to work on that scary Vade Mecum etude book or the Jean Jean etudes that usually send you into a rage during other months. Mars will give you the focus and ambition to practice repertoire than seems otherwise intimidating. Roll up your sleeves and get to work!

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. You may dive into a new program of study around the time of this New Moon. Always wanted to learn French? Invest in one of those language learning apps! Need a refresher in music theory? Sign up at your local community college! This month will be about learning, research, and broadening your horizons.

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. If you have a flute blog, this is a great time to post about some of the new things you are learning in class. If you are studying French, take a deep dive into the history of the French Flute School and some of our legendary flute performers from the region. If you are taking a theory refresher, analyze one of your favorite pieces from a brand-new perspective.

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 10th house of career goals. Your focus will likely shift onto your career when the Sun moves signs. Take a critical look at your most important career goals. Where would you like to be in the next year? 5 years? 10 years? Are you on track to becoming your ideal musician or has your career changed? Use this time to reflect and plan for the future.

March 21st – Venus moves into your 10th house of career goals. As you think about your career, take a moment to consider what it is about music that truly makes you happy. You may have been on a career track that was recommended by a well-meaning advisor many years ago but does not quite make you happy. Life changes. Circumstances change.  We change. It is totally okay to create a better career for yourself.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. You may need to change up your home studio space a bit. Something just isn’t working very well either for yourself or for your family. Move the furniture around a bit. Upgrade your computer or any other technology that may need an update. Soundproof what can be soundproofed. Invest in an inspirational piece of art or a calming fountain.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. You will be knee-deep in rehearsals and meetings when Mars moves signs. This is a great time to schedule any sectionals or any other rehearsals needed to iron out all of those technical bits and tricky runs.

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance.  Thoughts of purchasing a new flute are dancing in your head, aren’t they? This New Moon will help attract some of the financial resources needed to make your dream flute a reality. This may be in the form of a loan from the bank or a gift from a wealthy relative.

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Mercury is encouraging you to chat with your local banking institution about realistic ways to finance your large purchase (aka your new flute). There may be ways to set up financing options to make this purchase sooner than you think.

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Your focus may be shifting on learning something new at the end of the month. Have you always wanted to learn French? Invest in a subscription to a language learning app or sign up for classes at your local community college.

March 21st – Venus moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education.  Whatever new skill or research the Sun has inspired, Venus will help you attract all of the best resources, literature, supplies, and anything else you will need to take a deep dive into your new venture.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 3rd house of communication. Are you working on a book, article, or blog series? Having a bit of writer’s block? The Full Moon will ask you to take a step back and proofread your work. What can you streamline? Have you wandered off topic? Cut what can be cut and revise what can revised.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 10th house of career goals. Mars will encourage you devise a new career plan in both the short and long-term. What type of flutist would you like to be in the next year? Next 5 years? Next 10 years? What will you need to get there? Mars breaks down barriers. Roll up your sleeves and start working on those action plans!

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. You will likely make a new friend or important new professional connection around the time of this New Moon. This partnership will help bring your career to a whole new level. What projects can you collaborate on? Is there a joint recital in your future?

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 7th house of relationships. Take your new friend out for coffee (virtual or otherwise) and talk shop. What shared experiences do you have? What can you learn from them? What can they learn from you? Most importantly, start planning your next performance or joint venture.

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Your focus will shift onto your finances when the Sun moves signs. There may be an expense connected to your new collaborative project that you did not anticipate. Start budgeting – How much will everything cost?

March 21st – Venus moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Venus will help you attract the financial resources to meet your bottom line. You may be staring at a large sum but your banking institution will provide a few excellent ideas for loan or financing options.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. Are you happy with your current day job? You may find yourself craving a new challenge during this Full Moon. Take stock of all the things you currently do at at work that are energizing and those that are draining. Search for new opportunities that highlight the skills from your energizing list and avoiding listings that include elements from your draining list. You are about to create a much brighter work life for yourself!

Libra (September 23-October 22)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Although you may not be able to travel at the moment, you may find yourself dreaming about an adventure abroad. Start learning a new language (or set of languages) to prepare for your future trip. There are a number of good language learning apps, but you may also sign up for classes at your local community college.

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You may receive a wonderful new opportunity at work that will require a bit more of your time. Don’t worry – It will be well worth the effort! Perhaps your conductor has programmed you to perform principal on a very important symphony chalk full of flute solos. You’ve got this! Enjoy the spotlight.

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. As you toil away in the practice room perfecting your solos for rehearsal, you may be inspired to analyze your part and discuss practice tip on your next flute blog. Discuss the history of the piece. Is there a story buried between the ledger lines?

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 7th house of relationships. Take a deep dive into online flute forums and other discussion groups when the Sun moves signs. You will likely meet a number of new friends and reconnect with old colleagues. What projects are others working on? Are there any opportunities to collaborate?

March 21st – Venus moves into your 7th house of relationships. You will have a great time reconnecting with old flute friends. Venus will encourage you to reminisce about the good old days. What were your favorite performances?

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. Time for a makeover! Buy yourself a new recital outfit. Treat your flute to an overhaul. Replace that ratty old flute bag with something a bit more functional. Get rid of the old to make room for the new!

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Okay, Scorpio. It is time to do what you do best – taxes. I know, very boring but you are extremely good at finding all of the best deductions and could give masterclasses on how to complete a Schedule C. If your taxes are already filed (not surprised), Mars may instead be encouraging you to finally make a savings plan to purchase that new flute that you’ve had your eye on.

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may be embarking on a creative project around the time of this New Moon. Have you ever tried your hand a composing? Give it a whirl! You may be better than you think...

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Composing may be a bit more difficult than you imagined. Write about it on your blog! What has the creative process been like for you? What came easily? What was your greatest challenge?

March 20th – The Sun Moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Your attention will shift onto your increasingly busy schedule when the Sun moves signs. Things are a bit out of control at the moment. Take a step back and remove any obvious time-wasters, delegate any tasks that distract or annoy you, and create productive time blocks for practice times, rehearsals, and teaching. Take a page out of Libra’s playbook to create a better sense of work-life balance.

March 21st – Venus moves into 6th house of daily work and health routines. Now that your schedule is a bit cleaned up, fill your time with self-care items that make you feel good. Meditate. Journal. Sing. Paint. Exercise. Add these activities to your weekly and daily to-dos.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. A piece you have been practicing lately causes you more stress than it is worth. You have likely flew into a Scorpio rage or two over this one. Cancel it! It’s okay – Give yourself permission to find another piece that inspires you.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 7th house of relationships. This is a good time to set up meetings with, well, anybody and everybody. Reconnect with friends and family (whether virtually or otherwise). Check up on your flute friends – What are they working on?

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family.  You could be looking at a new home or studio space around the time of this New Moon. Something in your environment needs to change and it may be the entire environment itself. Where would you most like to live? What is stopping you from relocating to your dream home?

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 4th house of home and family. This is a good time for a family meeting. Are your family members happy where they live? Would they like to move to another city or town? If not, are they happy with the house the way it is or are renovations needed in your current space? What compromises can be made to make everyone happy?

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Your focus will shift onto a creative project when the Sun moves signs. Planning a recital? What is on your repertoire list? Where would you like to host your performance? Can you arrange online viewing to increase your audience size?

March 21st – Venus moves into 5th house of creativity and joy. Venus will help you attract all of the resources you need to plan The Best Flute Recital Ever. Meet with an excellent accompanist. Look up the perfect outdoor venue. Find a great place to order fancy programs. Connect with a tech expert to set up online access with good sound options.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be walking away from an ensemble around the time of this Full Moon. Perhaps the rehearsal schedule does not work with your current responsibilities. Or you may have been invited to participate in another group that will demand more of your time. It is okay to walk away. Try not to burn any bridges – Retain your excellent connections with your old colleagues.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You will be very busy at work at the beginning of the month, Capricorn. Try not to lose your cool! You will have a ton of energy to get everything done on your to-do list (and then some). Use your extra energy to get squeeze in a few laps around the track.

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 3rd house of communication. Get ready to write up a storm! This New Moon will inspire you to put your thoughts into words. Have you always wanted to write an article or a book about the flute or your favorite composer? Go for it! Just start writing and see where the Spring breeze takes you.

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 3rd house of communication. Blog, blog, blog, then blog some more. You are super inspired by something in your flute playing life right now and have a lot to say. Share your thoughts with your internet fan base! Others will have a lot of good feedback and ideas to share.

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 4th house of home and family. Your focus will shift to your home environment when the Sun moves signs. Working from home? Be sure to take a few mid-day breaks to hang out with your loved ones (including any pets!). Go for a short walk down the block. Play a few rounds of frisbee with your dog. Call your parents and check in.

March 21st – Venus moves into 4th house of home and family. This is a great day for a family picnic! Enjoy the first few days of Spring with some sunshine in the park (or, if you are lucky enough to live near the water, head to the beach). Play some golf with your siblings. Do some retail therapy for items to spruce up your house. Leave your flute in its case and just have a good time.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. It is time to be a bit honest with yourself about the direction of your career. You may be stuck in a rut. Or perhaps an ambition that you had a long time ago is no longer feasible or practical for you, or simply does not interest you anymore. It is okay to move on. The teenager in you may have wanted to travel the world as a soloist, but the adult has a much better life as a full-time teacher. Be true to yourself.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

March 3rd – Mars moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Mars will ask you to work on a creative project that until now you have procrastinated. You may have had a bit of writer’s block or winter blues. It is okay. Shake it off! Once you start composing, writing, or recording again, you will be hit with an exciting new burst of inspiration.

March 13th – A New Moon appears in your 2nd house of income.  You may be offered a promotion or a new job around the time of this New Moon. Congrats! You have worked exceptionally hard for this new opportunity. This will no doubt open a number of doors for you down the road.

March 15th – Mercury moves into your 2nd house of income. Once the ink is on the paper, you may tell everyone and anyone your good news. Announce on Facebook that you will begin a new position shortly with your local college or performing organization. Change your employment status on LinkedIn. Update your resume or CV. You’ve earned a bit of brag time!

March 20th – The Sun moves into your 3rd house of communication. You will be inspired to write when the Sun moves signs. Do you have a flute blog yet? This is a great time to post about a few flute topics that interest you. Do you have a set of method book that you love? Favorite techniques that you teach? Funny stories about past performances? Composers whose life and works you find interesting? Write about it!

March 21st – Venus moves into 3rd house of communication. This is a great time to network your fellow flutists online. Hop onto a flute forum and strike up a conversation with someone new. Reply to a few posts with your recommendations and advice. Make a few friends and share a few new ideas.

March 28th – A Full Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. You may need to rethink your upcoming travel plan around the time of this Full Moon. Whether it is due to travel restrictions or scheduling conflicts, you may need to post-pone your travels. Do not fret! Instead, start planning a bigger and better trip for a future date. Explore Europe. Attend a concert in Paris. Dream big!
