DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES March 2022

by Rachel Taylor Geier

Welcome to March! Spring is just around the corner and thanks to the union of Zodiac powerhouses Venus and Mars, there will be new energy to follow your passions this month. Revisit those New Year’s Resolutions that you set back in January. Are you on track with your goals or has life gotten in the way? Rethink your approach. You may have been executing actions plans based on the suggestions of others rather than what you truly want. Venus will encourage you to enjoy the process while Mars will energize you to accomplish small, measurable goals each day. Remember – goal setting is a process. Strive to be 1% better every day and reward yourself for any wins along the way. Mercury is also fairly active this month. Aim for clear, purposeful interactions with, well, everyone. Mean what you say and say what you mean. The theme for March is to be genuine in your thoughts, actions, and words. Live for you!

Pisces (February 19-March 20) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. This is a great time to take a look back at your New Year’s Resolutions. Are you on track with what you wanted to accomplish at the beginning of the year? This New Moon will likely bring you a key new resource to help you accomplish your goals. Follow any super-sudden whims of inspiration and sign up for any new seemingly golden opportunities.

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. When Venus and Mars move together, you will fall back in love with practicing the flute. You are not just drilling scales and excerpts, but also finding new ways to interpret some of the pieces you know and love. You may even find a new piece to add to your repertoire that really speaks to you. Play from the heart.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 1st house of identity. Mercury will encourage you to say what you mean and mean what you say. Ask for whatever it is that you need from others. Need more practice time? Let your family and friends know that you are unavailable during pre-set hours. Need career advice to help get you to the next step? Schedule a meeting with a trusted advisor or teacher. Need a new flute? Schedule a chat with a retailer about options and trials.

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. You may finally need to deal with a difficult relationship in your environment that has caused you a bit of recent stress. This could be with a student or a colleague or even a conductor with whom you do not see eye to eye. The Full Moon will ask you to have a very honest conversation with them. Something needs to change and compromises may need to be made. If there are no solutions, you may need to end this connection and look for other more positive influences in your life.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 2nd house of income. Your attention will shift onto your job when the Sun moves signs. Take a moment during this time to search the job boards and audition announcements. There could be a wonderful new opportunity to expand into a more fulfilling position. This is a great time to start working on your CV.

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 2nd house of income. If you have recently applied to a new position, you may be contacted to schedule an interview or audition at the end of the month. Mercury will help you make the case for yourself to any interview panel. What makes you unique as a flutist? Outline it for your committee! What goals do you have for your future? How can you help this organization to be better than it is now? Sell it!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will likely be practicing a new piece at the beginning of the month or, on a grander scale, changing up your practice routine for the better. Try beginning each practice session with a plan and at least one, very specific goal to accomplish by the end of your session. Revitalize your approach to practice this month. Experiment with different methods, practicing at different times of the day, and with different sets of etudes and fundamental studies.

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 11th house of groups and communities. This is a great time to audition to different groups in and around your community. Have you always wanted to join the local symphony in your nearest metropolitan city? Reach out to the personnel coordinator to inquire about sub auditions. Even better – Start your own chamber ensemble or flute choir! Connect as much as you can with local musicians. There may be opportunities lurking where you least expect them.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. With your practice routine reimagined, Mercury will encourage you to share your findings with a larger audience. Do you have a flute blog? Now is the perfect time to start one! Write about the new practice techniques that work best for you and the ones that are not worth the hype. Outline your routine and how it has changed and discuss practice goals for the future.

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. The theme of this month for you is routines. Something in your daily schedule is just not working anymore. You may have changed up the time that you typically practice, which is having a domino effect on the rest of your day-to-day activities. Write out everything you need to do over the course of a week. What can you eliminate or delegate to someone else? Are there any activities that need less time than you have allocated to them? Streamline wherever possible.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 1st house of identity. Your attention will shift onto some of your most important goals when the Sun moves signs. Revisit that list of New Year’s Resolutions. Are you on track with your goals? Have your goals changed since the beginning of the year? Review this list from a fresh perspective. Is there a new approach you may take to get moving in the right direction again?

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 1st house of identity. Mercury will help connect you to the people and resources you need to work on your goals. Take a lesson with a local flute guru or sign up for an exciting summer masterclass with one of your idols. Search job boards if you are looking for a new opportunity more in line with your career ambitions. Making a transition to a new career? Schedule a meeting with a career counselor and start taking trainings in your new field.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. Did you recently audition for a new group? Congrats! This New Moon suggests that the position will be yours. Walk that fine line between strutting your stuff and meshing well with your new colleagues. You will want to adapt to their intonation and vibrato but also add your unique voice as appropriate. Chat with your new friends during breaks and before rehearsal. Learn as much as you can about them and be a great team player.

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 10th house of career goals. Venus and Mars will ask you a few honest yet difficult questions about your career trajectory. First of all, ask yourself honestly what it is about flute playing or flute life that you love the most. Is it performing? It is teaching? If there were no obstacles, what you would like to do with your career? Got it? Good! Now use the influence of Mars to start creating an action plan to move closer to the career of your dreams. You can do it as long as you have a plan!

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. This is a great time to host a get-together (virtual or otherwise) with the members of your new ensemble or connect with members from your other ensembles. Network, network, network! What are other musicians working on? Are there any opportunities to collaborate? Would you like to start your own chamber group? Starting planning rehearsals.

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may need to make some serious revisions to a creative project around the time of this Full Moon. Have you been recording an album or set of YouTube videos? Do you have a clearly defined theme? Have you edited some of your recordings? What about cover art or thumbnails? Are there too many videos in this set? Streamline and edit as much as possible.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will be heading into the practice room when the Sun moves signs. Practice all of the things! Finally master those etudes that you typically avoid (you know the ones!). Work on that piece all the cool kids perform that always seemed a bit over your head (you may be surprised). Try out those weird new techniques you took notes on at last year’s convention. Play everything. Break it down, Put it back together again.

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. With your attention in the practice room, this is a great opportunity to blog about some of your practice ambitions on your social media platforms. Take daily practice selfies or Instagram practice videos. Write about what works and what doesn’t for you. What practice tips can you offer to others? Share your thoughts with a larger global audience!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. You may be getting a very important new job around the time of this New Moon. This is a great opportunity for you and will open doors to you in the future. Go for it!

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Dreaming of an adventure abroad, Gemini? You have been couped up for way too long. Venus and Mars will encourage you to plan a trip to a super beautiful, far-away place. Dreaming of the beach? Want to attend a very important performance by your favorite orchestra or opera troupe? Mars will encourage you to start booking tickets and planning your itinerary at the beginning of the month.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 10th house of career goals. This is a great time to discuss your career goals with a trusted advisor or flute teacher. You have big plans for the future. They could even put you into contact with a conductor or other important contact who will serve as a mentor on your journey to become the best flutist ever.

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. Something in your environment is in need of a change. How well does your home studio space work for you? Is it too small? Too big? Too cluttered? This is a great time to get rid of any old, bulky furniture and update some of your studio technology. Invest in a great microphone for virtual lessons or performances. Add an inspirational piece of art. Remove anything that does not improve or streamline your space. Make your studio work better for you.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. Your focus will shift on to your performing groups when the Sun moves signs. You may be knee-deep in rehearsals and performances. Try not to stress. Remember to take breaks whenever possible and practice mindfulness between gigs. This is one of the best ways to avoid burnout. After all, being the best flutist ever requires stamina and a clear mind – Mindfulness with help with both of these things.

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. Advertise all of your upcoming performances on your social media outlets. You may usually advertise just to friends, family, and students, but there are serval communities out there craving some musical culture after a period of worldwide isolation. Share your gifts, and those of your colleagues, with a broader audience. You may be more popular than you think.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. Planning a trip, Cancer? Your head may be in the clouds dreaming of your next getaway at the beginning of the month. Start envisioning your best summer flute adventure ever!

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 8th house of banking and finance. Venus and Mars know that there is something you have wanted to purchase for a long time. You may have talked yourself out of it several times due to cost or perhaps the impracticality of owning such a pricey piece of equipment, a shiny brand new Burkart, or a house with a pool and a great studio space. The time has come. Venus and Mars will help give you the courage to go for it. Mars will find an action plan that is practical and swift while Venus will charge it to your Visa without looking back.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. This is a great time to host a guest lecture or a masterclass (virtual or otherwise). You have a lot of great ideas about flute playing and music life in general. Share them with a captive audience! Use your wonderful Cancer charisma to instruct and inspire in the best way possible.

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 3rd house of communication. A writing project you have been working on will need to undergo some serious revisions around the time of this Full Moon. You may have veered off topic or perhaps your topic is too broad. Can you streamline some of your sub-sections or include fewer, yet nonetheless convincing, musical examples? Sometimes less is more.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 10th house of career goals. Your attention will shift onto your career when the Sun moves signs. Take an honest look at your most important career goals. Are you on track or are you in a rut? Examine that rut. Sometimes a rut can indicate that you are ready for a change of direction. What do you really want to be when you grow up?

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 10th house of career goals. This is a great time to meet with an advisor or trusted colleague to discuss possible action steps to take next in your career. Learn beatboxing or invest in one of those trippy headjoints with a moveable lip plate. Change in up!

Leo (July 23-August 22)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. You may receive an opportunity from the Universe to purchase something quite important to you at the beginning of the month. This may be a new flute! Use this time to research some of your financing options, both directly from the retailer and other instrument sellers. Check in with your local banking institution. There may be a personal loan or credit card with a low interest rate available to you to make your purchase sooner than you thought.

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 7th house of relationships. Spend some time connecting and reconnecting with friends, family, and colleagues when Venus and Mars pair up. You have some adoring fans, Leo. Discuss your current projects and future goals. Reminisce about past performances, happy memories, or fantastic flute adventures. This is also a great time to make new friends. Attend networking events and strike up conversations with fellow musicians.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Mercury will encourage you to sign all of the contracts and schedule those flute trials. You are about to make your major purchase, but first things first – read the fine print. Make sure you have a payment plan set up and ready to go. Make sure the terms fit into your current budget and are reasonable for your lifestyle. Read everything, sign everything, and make sure you know exactly which instrument you would like to invest in (including all of the bells and whistles that go with it).

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. You may be walking away from something in your job or even the job itself around the time of this Full Moon. It is likely that you have accepted another position elsewhere. You may be a bit nervous to break the news to your current employer. If you are on good terms, schedule a coffee meeting. Graciously thank them for the opportunity and work with them to create a seamless transition plan. Do what you can to keep all bridges intact while exiting on a high note.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Your attention will shift onto planning summer adventures when the Sun moves signs. Feeling couped up, Leo? Start prepping your audition recordings and researching program requirements. Who would you most like to study with this summer?

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. I know this is going to sound scary, but if anyone can handle it, it is a Leo: Reach out to one of your idols. Ask them for career advice, performing advice, or even a bit of life advice. You may do this on social media, email, or even in a virtual masterclass setting. You would be surprised at how magnanimous some of our music heroes are. We are all in this industry together, after all.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. You will be making an important new friend at the beginning of the month. Make sure to attend any and all networking functions (even virtual masterclasses where you can spark up conversations in the chat box). This connection will help catapult your flute life in a new, exciting direction. Chat with this person about their interests and expertise. Is there an opportunity to pool your collective strengths into a project? Think outside the box and start planning future endeavors together.

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Get ready to burn some calories! You won’t be doing any boring laps around the track this time (unless Venus decides that is something you genuinely enjoy). Mars will ask you to get back into shape while Venus will encourage you to explore creative ways to do so that involve rhythm, music, and mindfulness. In other words, Venus wants you to enjoy the time you put into exercise in new and creative ways. Sign up for a dance class. Practice a bit of yoga. Play a fun family sport like basketball or baseball. Go for a swim.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 7th house of relationships. This is a great time to schedule coffee meet ups, virtual or otherwise, with flute friends old and new. Go into these get-togethers without an agenda. Simple build better connections with your flute community. What are others working on? What new artists do they enjoy? March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. You may need to revisit some of your New Year’s Resolutions around the time of this Full Moon. A goal that you had thought was very important may have lost some priority in your life. Or perhaps you are disappointed by your lack of progress for one reason or another. Take some time to rethink this goal. Is it necessary to work on this now or can it be tabled until later in the year? Do you need to start from scratch? Are there better approaches that may take more time but lead to better results?

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Your attention will shift onto your finances when the Sun moves signs. Doing your taxes by any chance? Make sure to gather all of your student invoices and any other records of business expenses from your studio. Have you received all of your W2s and 1099s? Are you still waiting on forms from other agencies? Follow up with anybody that stills owes you documentation.

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. This may be the year that you consult with a tax expert. Are you missing anything that could help lower your net income? Are there allowances or credits that you may have missed? If so, would it be prudent to check previous tax years as well to see if maybe you are owed money? All of these questions are important now as you are hoping to increase your refund (or decrease the amount you owe) in order to save more money in the coming months for a larger purchase (such as a new flute).

Libra (September 23-October 22)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You may be receiving some new opportunities at work that will require you to shift your schedule around a bit. This is for the best as this not something you will want to pass up. Perhaps you have been asked to sub for a very important orchestra in your community or in the nearest metropolitan area. Or a colleague may be going on sabbatical and is searching for someone to take over their studio practice while they are away. Volunteer and do what you can to make enough space in your schedule to crush your new gig.

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 5th house of creativity and joy. When Venus and Mars join forces, you will be super inspired to create something new and wonderful. This is great energy for composers! Try your hand at composing this month – You may be surprised at what Venus and Mars will help you create.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. This is a great time to schedule all of your meetings, interviews, and any make-up lessons. Mercury will help you manage all responsibilities requiring face time or one-on-one meetings so that you are all caught up with your schedule and can devote time to other priorities. Use calendar blocking to complete a number of meetings at certain times on certain days. Don’t forget to reward yourself for being super organized and productive!

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. A piece you had been practicing lately may need to find its way back into your filing cabinets. You may have tried everything – practicing slowly with a metronome, practicing in chunks, practicing in different meters or keys – to no avail. How often do you stress over this piece? Is it worth it? If the answer is no, send it packing! It is totally okay to turn your attention to a piece that resonates better with your skills, abilities, and/or interests.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 7th house of relationships. Your attention will shift onto the others in your life when the Sun moves signs. Respond to questions on online flute forums. Send a direct message to an old colleague. What are they up to? Are there any opportunities to collaborate? Are there flute jobs available in your community or other flutists in need of a reliable sub? Offer to help if there is a need.

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 7th house of relationships. Schedule a few coffee meetings (virtual or otherwise) with some of your favorite flute friends. Is it possible to start a flute choir in your local flute community? Start discussing possible rehearsal locations, repertoire, and performance venues with your besties. What will the audition process look like?

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. Scorpios like to keep their very best ideas under wraps until they have exhaustively researched all of the ins and outs of their project. This New Moon will ask you to fight again your Scorpio nature and plunge headfirst into a creative project. You know you’ve already done some initial research. You have a basic idea of what you’d like to work on. You know how to make it sparkle (or at least know a Leo friend that can help you out with that part). Now trust yourself, trust the Universe, and start bringing your project to life.

March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 4th house of home and family. You are all about beautifying and reconstructing your home environment when Venus and Mars pair up. Spring cleaning, anyone? Out with the old and in with the new.

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Do you have a flute blog or a YouTube channel? This is a great time to discuss some of your work, or related projects by other artists, on your platform. Share some of your research with your audience. Discuss some of the interesting unanswered questions or questionable holes in current research. Where would you like to take this project in the coming months?

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be calling it quits on one of your performing ensembles or community organizations. It is likely that you have accepted another conflicting opportunity elsewhere. Strategize how best to let your current group in on the news and how to make a seamless transition to your new gig. Avoid burning bridges – There may be excellent opportunities to collaborate with your fellow musicians in the future.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You have already made a lot of changes this month, Scorpio. Changed your environment. Reprioritized your important creative projects. Moved on to new performing groups. Is there anything that can be redelegated to others?

March 27 – Mercury moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. This is a great time to create a daily schedule template. Write out all of your responsibilities, practice routines, work projects, chores, and any other day-to-day processes. Are there any obvious time wasters? Cut these out. Anything you don’t actually like doing? Fill this time up instead with activities that lift you up.

How did you get here? Better yet, record and post videos of your favorite pieces. Be the rock star you know you are!

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 4th house of home and family. This is a great time for a family meeting. Perhaps your schedules have been a bit unpredictable lately. Set up a shared family calendar that everyone can access online. Make sure to put in all practice and rehearsal times but leave enough time for family meals and movie nights. Plan a few Spring outings while you’re at it. Is there a show you would all like to attend in your area? Book some tickets now!

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. The Full Moon will ask you to take a very honest look at some of your career goals. You may have been working towards a goal that you are no longer genuinely interested in pursuing. Perhaps a well-meaning mentor along the line encouraged you to pursue a path but over time that path has become more stressful that it is worth. It is totally okay to reevaluate and select a new, better path forward. Ask yourself what you truly love about your flute life. How can you best create a career doing what it is that you love? Think outside the box.

March 20 – The Sun moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may be struck by a ray of inspiration to start working on a new, seemingly crazy, very unique, and utterly awesome creative project when the Sun moves signs. Start brainstorming! March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. You may need to postpone or cancel a trip you had been planning. This could be due to newly imposed travel restrictions, a schedule that has become unmanageable, or other unforeseen obstacles. Try not to worry. If you haven’t already, this is also a great time to set up a shared family calendar online. Make sure everyone is on the same page.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

March 2 – A New Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. If you had recently interviewed or auditioned for a new position, you may be receiving word at the beginning of the month that you landed the job. Congrats! Now is the time to talk salary. March 6 – Venus and Mars move into your 1st house of identity. Venus and Mars will want you to live your best life. You may have just gone through a period where you’ve put everyone’s needs above your own (including family, friends, colleagues, conductors, and students). Now is the time for you! Revisit that list of New Year’s Resolutions. What have you accomplished so far in the year? Have you fallen off track? Make a new plan moving forward. You can do this!

March 9 – Mercury moves into your 2nd house of income. Time to talk turkey about your salary! You may need to increase your lesson rates. Have a chat with your students about your rate increase. There could be subtle ways to increase your income through gig work.

March 18 – A Full Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. Thanks to your creative income increase, you may be making the final payment on your new flute earlier than you thought.
