DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES January 2023

by Rachel Taylor Geier

Happy New Year! The year begins with happiness and forward movement (the Universe is so over retrograde season). January is bookended by Venus combos, adding good vibes to anything that feels stuck or stale. The first of these joins Venus with Saturn, helping us to understand the deeper meaning behind structured situations. Structure for structure’s sake is empty. Venus reminds us that happiness and responsibility often go hand-in-hand. The end of month brings Venus and Neptune together, opening our imaginations to the possibilities of the unknown. Create something new and beautiful with this energy. Both Mars and Mercury are also moving forward this month, helping us to finally roll up our sleeves and get to work without conflict or miscommunications. Start the year off on a productive and positive foot and make the most out of anything offered to you from the Universe.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 2nd house of income. You may be busy at work at the beginning of the year, Cap, but Venus will ask you to prioritize the responsibilities that bring you joy or that make you feel great about yourself above the mundane, everyday to-dos. You may have devised a decent list of New Year’s Resolutions this year. Is “find a great performing gig” at the top of your list? Start auditioning and making those connections.

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. The time has come to have that difficult conversation with the student that just will not practice (despite your persistent encouragement) or the colleague that keeps ghosting you whenever you suggest working on difficult passages together in the practice room. State your case honestly. What solutions or compromises can you both agree upon to better the situation?

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. This is a Capricorn’s dream time. Mars in the 6th will make you super productive! Have you felt a bit stalled lately. Perhaps the holiday break put the proverbial breaks on all rehearsals, lessons, and performances. Now is the time to reschedule literally everything. Use this energy to get to the beginning of February with a completely clear to-do list!

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 1st house of identity. Any contracts or agreements that have been stalled will begin to work themselves out when Mercury goes direct. This is also a really great time to advocate for yourself and your needs. Pull up that New Year’s Resolution list again – What do you need to accomplish your goals? More practice time? Clear your schedule of any unnecessary responsibilities. A new instrument? Create a savings plan.

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 2nd house of income. Your focus will shift onto your work when the Sun moves signs. This is a great time to apply to new jobs. Have you checked out the audition boards lately? Are there teaching opportunities in your area? Do you have new openings in your studio? Expand your reach!

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. This New Moon will bring you a wonderful new work opportunity. You might find yourself being asked to sub for an orchestra with a current opening. Put your best foot forward. Even temporary gigs have the potential to lead to bigger and better opportunities in the not-so-distant future.

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 3rd house of communication. Do you have a flute blog? This is a great time to discuss a piece of music that really speaks to you on your platform. Why do you love this piece? Analyze it! Is there something buried in the harmonic texture that always gives you goosebumps when you hear it? Is there a melody that brings you to tears or a motive that inspires you? Write about it!

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 1st house of identity. Venus will ask you to think about the New Year’s Resolutions that mean the most to you this year. If you could boil them down to one or two, what would they be? Saturn will encourage you to create reasonable action plans to help get you there! Make sure your action plans inspire you rather than feel like a chore. If you are hoping to host a recital in the new year, for example, create a practice plan that works well with your current schedule (and energy level). Start reading through some awesome music.

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Something in your daily routine is taking up way too much time without much of a reward on the other side. Did you sign up for a group or committee that tends to create more busy work than opportunities for their members? Use the new year reboot to say goodbye to this group. Your time is valuable and should be given to people and things that create joy in your life.

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 5th house of creativity and joy. Have you felt stalled on a creative project recently? When Mars goes direct, you will receive new inspiration to roll up your sleeves and get back to work. Composing a new piece for flute and piano? Try experiment with that interesting melody you came up during the holidays. Considering hosting a lecturer recital? Start brainstorming repertoire and researching your composer.

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. That super difficult piece you have been working on in the practice will start to come together when Mercury goes direct. Practice it in chunks and then put it back together. Chances are good that you have been overthinking the music (or at least your approach to it). Maybe you don’t really need those trick fingerings or creative workarounds.

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 1st house of identity. Your focus will shift back onto your New Year’s Resolutions when the Sun moves signs. Start working on those action plans! You have some great goals this year and a reasonable plan for how to get there. Now get to work (or practicing)!

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. You will make an important decision about one of your goals around the time of this New Moon. Go for something that you never thought you’d be able to accomplish. Perhaps you will make the decision to buy a new flute! Remember to shop sales and research financing options to get the best deal. Then invest in your dream instrument!

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 2nd house of income. Venus will bring a really wonderful new work opportunity to you at the end of the month. Perhaps you will welcome a student into your studio that really jives with your teaching style and works very hard at their lesson materials. Help this student shine as brightly as possible under your leadership.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Venus will help you track down a piece that really resonates with you. Is there a work that you have heard many times in recitals but have never had the courage to learn for yourself? Perhaps it sounds super technical or requires you to have an extra set of lungs to make it through the phrasing. Throw caution to the wind and give it a try!

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. A creative project you may have been working on recently will hit a snag or two around the Full Moon. Take a step back and look at your work from another angle. Where can you streamline your ideas? Is there a better direction you might take your project or composition? Put yourself in your audience’s shoes – What will they find most valuable about your work?

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 4th house of home and family. A home or studio renovation project may have been stalled over the holidays. When Mars goes direct, it will be time to roll up your sleeves and get back to work. Put your holiday decorations away in a safe place and start to clear out any old furniture and electronics that have seen better days. How can you revive your space for the year ahead?

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 11th house of groups and communities. Many of your rehearsals may have been on a hiatus over the holiday break. Schedules will go back to normal once Mercury goes direct. This is a great time to sight-read new works for your next concert and start scheduling sectionals to break down the tricky bits. Collaborating will be much easier moving forward – Work with each other’s natural talents.

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will be setting up shop in the practice room when the Sun moves signs. Take a critical look at the way you practice. Do you have a fairly reliable routine or do you tend to mix it up? Do you set goals for each session or do you tend to wing it? Try changing your approach to be more productive with your practice time.

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will likely be burning the midnight oil practicing a new piece. One of your New Year’s Resolutions may be to finally tackle that super difficult piece you have always wanted to perform but never had the guts to learn. Now is the time! You’ve got this!

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 1st house of identity. Venus will take you on a shopping spree at the end of the month. Be sure that you actually know how much money you can spend – Neptune may cloud your judgement when it comes to setting a budget. Do you need to upgrade your flute gear? Want a beautiful new flute bag or a shiny bejeweled crown? Treat yourself!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 11th house of groups and communities. Schedule all of the group rehearsals and sectionals in your performing groups at the beginning of the month. You are feeling super productive and, let’s face it, you have really missed working with your colleagues over the holiday break. Start the new year off on a productive and happy note in order to absolutely crush your first performances of the new season.

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. New year, new space! Something in your home or teaching environment is just not working for you anymore. Have you been trying to teach from home in your living room or in a cramped office, crowded with old furniture? Is it possible to move your teaching space to a local instrument shop or another off-site office location? If not, can you clear out a guestroom and dedicate it only to teaching? Make your space work better for you in the new year.

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 3rd house of communication. This is a great time to work on that book, article, or blog post idea you’ve had circling in your head over the holiday break. Start with a decent outline – What will you discuss? What is your main theme? What examples (musical or otherwise) will you include to support your position? Where would you like to solicit your work? Is your blog the correct platform or is there a bigger/better publisher that might promote your work on a larger, more global scale.

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 10th house of career goals. This is a great time to meet with an advisor or trusted flute mentor. The New Year’s season is a natural time to reflect on career goals and devise new action plans for the next 12 months. Where would you like to be in your career by this time next year? What types of jobs would you like to consider and on what timeline? What will you need to get there? Talk it out!

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. Your focus will be on rehearsals when the Sun moves signs. You will be busy sight-reading new music and prepping for your next performance. Make the most out of each rehearsal by ironing out the tricky bits calmly and strategically while playing out on important melodies. This is the year that the conductor will no longer ask the flutes to play louder!

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may come across an audition posting for a group you’ve had your eye on for a while. Start brushing up your orchestral excerpts and any other audition music and sign up for an audition. The worst they can say is no. This New Moon suggests that they will offer some type of opportunity (even temporary) to join their ranks.

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 12th house behind-the-scenes activities. Venus will encourage you to practice some of your old favorites at the end of the month. This may be in connection to an audition, but it may just be a good way to try out new techniques on music that you already know and love. Relive your best performing memories through a piece that always makes you feel fierce and awesome.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 10th house of career goals. As you compile your list of New Year’s Resolutions this year, think about what goals would bring you happiness if you were to achieve them, particularly when it comes to your career. Will you truly be happy if you were to achieve a principal position in an orchestra? What would that mean for your travel schedule? What sacrifices will you need to make to achieve your goal? Is there perhaps a different goal that will help you excel in your career that may bring you more joy and less sacrifice? Go for that one! Having a flute career is not the only thing that matters in life.

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 3rd house of communication. Writer’s block by any chance, Taurus. You may be working on a book or article and find yourself stuck around this Full Moon. Take a step back and proofread what you have already. Have you veered off from your original topic? Are you too wordy? Where can you streamline your ideas? Have you accidently created two articles instead of one? Parse them out so they make more sense as separate items. Often less is more!

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 2nd house of income. Mars will give you the courage to either ask for that raise that you know you deserve at work or pursue an awesome new job opportunity all together. You are ready for a new challenge and are hungry to strut your stuff. You deserve to excel in your flute playing career this year. Go for that super awesome job with your name on it!

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 9th house of travel and higher education. Do you have a really great idea for a presentation or panel discussion topic? Mercury will encourage you to find an upcoming music conference (either national or local) to discuss your work. Gather your colleagues who may specialize on this topic. Propose a really great panel discussion on a flute-related topic. This will not only give you an excuse to travel somewhere great, but you will also have the opportunity to network with your colleagues. It’s a win-win!

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 10th house of career goals. Your focus will shift back onto your career when the Sun moves signs. Apply to job opportunities as they arise. The Sun wants to help you escape your career rut and bring you fabulous new opportunities this year. Keep an open mind and a sharp CV.

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. The New Moon will bring you an interview or audition opportunity that you will not want to pass up. Follow this nudge from the Universe. Prep like you have never prepped before. This may require some focused time with your orchestral excerpts or some time prepping your best answers to standard interview questions. You’ve got this!

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 11th house of groups and communities. Schedule some time to simply sight-read chamber music with your favorite musician friends. Sometimes we forget that music is intended to be a communication device rather than a task or circus exhibition. Gather your buddies and just play through some great tunes.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 9th house of travel and higher education. Venus wants you to start dreaming of a vacation! Or, more likely, start imagining which masterclasses and conferences you wish to attend this summer. Apply to everything! Have a great idea for a lecture? Send an abstract. Want to enter an NFA competition? Brush up on the required repertoire and prepare to record in the coming weeks.

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. You may be saying goodbye to a job around the time of this Full Moon. Not to worry – This is probably because you have accepted another opportunity elsewhere. Remember to keep it 100 as you exit – You never know when opportunities to collaborate with your old colleagues will arise in the future.

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 1st house of identity. This is a great time to put together your list of New Year’s Resolutions. What are your top 3 flute ambitions in the new year? Mars will ask you to roll up your sleeves and get to work. What are the first steps you need to take in each of these areas? Come up with a reasonable, achievable action plan.

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 8th house of banking and finance. This is a great time to get down to the bottom of your finances. What are you spending your money on each month? Do you have any forgotten hidden subscriptions? Do you spend too much money eating out and not enough investing in new music and equipment for your studio? Do you have a savings plan in place to purchase a new flute? Cut out unnecessary expenses so you have more money to spend on the things that matter.

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. Your attention will be on summer programs when the Sun moves signs. This is a great time to practice any repertoire you will need to master to either apply to these programs or to prep for summer performances elsewhere. Get an early start this year!

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. This New Moon will likely bring another travel opportunity to you. Perhaps there is a local masterclass that you would like to perform in. Does your area have a flute club? Research when their next flute festival will be held. Are there any competitions or other performance opportunities for this festival? Make connections now.

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 10th house of career goals. Venus and Neptune will help you take a trip to the Never Never Land in your imagination when it comes to your career at the end of the month. What do you REALLY want to be when you grow up? If time and money were not barriers, what you would want to do with your flute playing? Your ideal flute life may not be as far-fetched as you think…

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 8th house of banking and finance. Venus will ask you to invest in something that really matters to you. This may be a new flute or even a new space to call home (or work, or both!). Take some time to research the item you want and what your financing options may be. Saturn will help reign Venus in from overspending so make sure to look at all of the other hidden expenses that may be lurking in potential financing contracts. Once the details are ironed out, you will have permission from the Universe to go shopping!

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. You may be accomplishing a very important goal around the time of this Full Moon. This is a great time to wrap up your work on a book or finally perform that recital you have been prepping tirelessly for. Enjoy every last moment and celebrate how hard you have worked to achieve your goal! The final product is not important as the road you took to get here. Recognize the road and your fantastic journey!

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Mars will encourage you to burn the midnight oil in the practice room. Practice literally all the things. Practice those scary etude books you have buried in your collection (yes, Anderson, I’m looking at you!). Start woodshedding that super awesome, but crazy difficult piece you have always wanted to learn. Try out that weird new technique you heard about in a masterclass last summer. It might just revitalize your playing!

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 7th house of relationships. The recent Mercury Retrograde may have led to an argument or two between friends and family. Mercury will help you clear the air and move past difficulties. This is a great time to discuss compromises or solutions to family problems. Invite friends over for coffee and talk things out. Start this new year off on the right foot.

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. Your focus will shift back onto your finances when the Sun moves signs. Now that Mercury is also direct, this would be a great time to look into any financial contracts or loan paperwork you may have had drafted in connection with an important purchase. Read all of the fine print and adjust terms as needed.

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. The Universe is giving you the green light to finally purchase that new flute, or house, or whatever other large purchase is on your mind. You have a great plan moving forward. You’ve analyzed your budget and have found a payment plan that works for your income. You even have contingencies plans in case anything falls through! You are ready to make this important purchase. Go for it!

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 9th house of travel and higher education. Venus and Neptune will have your head in the clouds dreaming of your next getaway. Dreaming of the beach in the middle of winter? Can you book a vacay to the islands for Spring Break? Where do you most want to go? Do you have the means and availability to escape reality for a bit?

Leo (July 23-August 22)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 7th house of relationships. Venus wants to you reconnect with friends and colleagues. There may be some great opportunities to collaborate on projects in the new year. What are your individual talents? How can you pool these talents into something that others will find interesting and useful? Are there ways to promote each other’s work under win-win conditions? Brainstorm with your musical tribe.

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You may have completely had it with a piece you are working on in the practice room. You have practiced it slow, forwards, backwards, in different meters and keys and still it does not jive. Table it! Nobody said you had to perform this piece. Banish it to your music files and move on to another work. Revisit it down the road when it feels a bit less worn out.

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 11th house of groups and communities. Mars will give you the energy to hop from one rehearsal to the next with ease. You will be busy! Remember to schedule some practice time between rehearsals to actually work on your part. This will help make your rehearsals as productive as possible. Avoid burnout by giving yourself more than enough time to eat, sleep, and exercise before or after rehearsals. You’ve got this!

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 6th house daily work and health routines. The holidays may have led to the cancelation of lessons and other 1:1 meetings. When Mercury goes direct, you are in the best position to reschedule all of these commitments. Try time-blocking make-up lessons on a Friday afternoon. You will be totally caught up by the end of January and can start looking towards other projects and performances.

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 7th house of relationships. The spotlight will be on the others in your life when the Sun moves signs. This is a great time to network! Hop onto a flute forum or other online flute community and add your two cents. Reach out to colleagues you have not heard from in a long time. How are they doing? What are they working on? This is also a great time to ask for informational interviews from famous flutists that you admire. How did they get their start and what advice do they have for you?

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. Your networking efforts will likely lead to an important new connection. Are there opportunities to collaborate with your new flute friend? Invite them out for coffee (virtual or otherwise) and discuss ideas for joint recitals or other joint ventures. Will you need to reach out to others to collaborate? What are your project deadlines? How can you create win-win scenarios that work for both of you?

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 8th house of banking and finance. Venus and Neptune are sort of a dangerous combo when they enter your 8th house. Venus likes to shop and Neptune likes to suspend reality, which means you may find yourself going on wild shopping sprees without keeping to a budget. Danger! If you do need some retail therapy (on flute gear or otherwise), make sure you take a Capricorn, Virgo, or Scorpio friend with you and tell them your budget. They will help keep you out of credit card debt!

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You are totally and absolutely done with giving your time and energy away to people and responsibilities that you do not really care about. Start the new year on the right foot by filling your schedule with only the things that make you feel great about yourself. If it drains you, find a way around it or, if you can’t, come up with creative ways to make it not such a bummer. If it is work, set up more boundaries around your schedule and play music for any boring, monotonous task. Make it better so you have the energy at the end of the day to focus on the awesome things in your life (such as creating beautiful music and crushing your flute practice routine).

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be walking away from a performing group around the time of this Full Moon. Perhaps you have taken a gig with a competing group or the group simply does not challenge you any longer. It is totally okay to move on. Remember not to burn any bridges on your way out. You will likely have opportunities to collaborate with your former colleagues in the future.

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 10th house of career goals. Mars will help you get to work on your career ambitions when he goes direct. Write down all of your long-term and short-term goals. Are you currently on-track or have you veered terribly from where you originally wanted to go? Has your career track changed? Are you now interested in pursuing other, more meaningful goals? Awesome! Create new action plans for this year. What are the steps you need to take to get to your dream job? What are the steps you can take right now?

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may have been dreaming of a creative project over the holiday break. Perhaps you have always wanted to try your hand at composition or refine your conducting technique in order to start your own flute choir. When Mercury goes direct, you may start creating concrete plans to get this project off the ground. You have a great idea! What are the next steps you need to take to bring it to fruition? Who do you need to collaborate with to get things started?

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Your focus will shift onto your daily responsibilities when the Sun moves signs. You are going to be super busy at the end of the month! Everyone will be asking you to join this meeting, attend this rehearsal, reschedule this lesson, and sub for this orchestra. Keep as many boundaries as you can – Remember: You still need time for the essentials like eating, sleeping, and exercise.

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. This New Moon will add yet another responsibility to your daily grind but this one is worth more than most of your other to-dos combined. You will definitely want to make time for this gig! What can you delegate to others during this period to free up your schedule? Are there meetings or rehearsal you could skip to tackle this new project? Clear your plate – It will be worth it!

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 7th house of relationships. Venus will ask you to take time out of your crazy daily to-dos and just spend some time with friends and family. Stop talking shop for a little bit and just enjoy the company of others. Invite your favorite flutists out for afternoon tea. Surprise an old conductor with a tin full of cookies to say thank you for all they have done for you. Connect without asking for anything more than peace and happiness.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 5th house of creativity and joy. Your creative juices are flowing at the beginning of the month, Libra! The holiday break may have given you some time and space to dream of a super interesting, yet perhaps very complex, flute project that really speaks to your soul. The Venus/Saturn combo will help you bring your vision to light in the new year. Dream big and brainstorm bigger!

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. This Full Moon will ask you some tough questions about your career. You may have found yourself in a career rut last year. Are you on a treadmill, doing the same things in the same way? Are you not feeling fulfilled or supported in your career? Time for a change! Think about where you would honestly like to be in your career by this time next year. How reasonable are your ambitions and do they make you happy? It is always okay to shift your focus onto a path than makes more sense for you.

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 9th house of travel and higher education. There is likely a new skill that you want to learn in the new year on your list of resolution. Would you like to take up a second (or third) instrument? Sign up for lessons! Want to learn more about how music fits into the world of art or literature? Enroll in a class at your local community college. Mars wants you to expand your horizons in January. It won’t be easy but you will have more than enough energy to tackle a truckload of homework in a subject that genuinely interests you.

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 4th house of home and family. This is a great time for a family planning meeting for the new year! Time to get calendars out and figure out who has obligations and when. What are your major events this year? When are your concerts (and how many can your family attend)? Where do folks want to vacay for the summer? Are there any other fun trips you could add during the off-season? Get everyone on the same page to make sure this year is super fun!

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. Your focus will shift back onto your creative project when the Sun moves signs. Use this time to create a to-do list for the next steps. Who do you need to contact (aka do you need an accompanist? A colleague to read through your work?)? What other services or resources do you need? Do you need to invest in technology upgrades? Start taking the next steps.

January 21st – A New Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. This New Moon will usher in a new opportunity to turn your project into something bigger and better. Be on the lookout for conferences seeking presenters and panelist. Can you discuss your project, even if it is still in its infancy, at a local or national music conference? This is a great way to drum up some publicity and perhaps make further connections to help promote your work.

January 26th – Venus joins Neptune in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. Venus wants you to enjoy your time. Remove all the boring and tedious items from your schedule as best as you can. You may be suffering from the winter blues. Change things up and simply book some time to practice for practice’s sakes. Structure nothing.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

January 2nd – Venus joins Saturn in your 4th house of home and family. The holidays may be over, but you are still wanting to spend more time with your loved ones. Have you been working yourself into oblivion these past few months? Make a plan to simplify your schedule so you can visit family more often or simply enjoy unstructured and uninterrupted family time with a bucket of popcorn and a good movie (or two).

January 6th – A Full Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. A trip you had been planning may be postponed or canceled around the time of this Full Moon. You may actually be relieved by this cancelation (are you hiding in your Scorpio hole for the winter, by any chance). Do not fret if you have to take extra steps to rebook your trip or cancel an opportunity due to travel. It was not meant to be. Plan a bigger and better trip in the future.

January 12th – Mars goes direct in your 8th house of banking and finance. There is major purchase on your mind. It may be a new flute or even a new house. Mars wants you to take the first steps to bring this major awesome thing into your life. First devise a budget. How much are you comfortably and realistically able to spend each month? What does your dream flute or home have in it? What features are negotiable and which are non-negotiable? Then go window-shopping! What can you find in your budget that meets your needs?

January 18th – Mercury goes direct in your 3rd house of communication. Write, write, and then write some more. You may have been experiencing a bit of writers block lately. Mercury will help you get back on track! Update your blog with some great new content. Brainstorm a few new ideas for articles or even a book. What most excites you about the flute and flute playing? Do you have a great new technique you’d like to write about? Or a composer that really resonates with you? Roll up your sleeves and start writing!

January 20th – The Sun moves into your 4th house of home and family. Your focus will shift onto your home space when the Sun moves signs. It may be time to move the furniture around or add an inspirational piece of art. Your surroundings may be bringing down your mood. Update your space! Make your teaching and living spaces work better for you and remove anything old, worn out, or broken.
