DR. G’s FLUTE HOROSCOPES February 2021

Welcome to February – The month of love indeed! This month begins with Venus, planet of love, moving signs. Play from the heart. Listen to music that inspires you and watch performances of your favorite works performed by your favorite groups. There is much joy and optimism this month. Mercury will also be going direct on the 20th. Any miscommunications that occurred earlier in the month may now be worked out. Have coffee chats with your friends, colleagues, or family members (virtually or otherwise). End what needs to be ended during the Full Moon and make way for the activities that truly matter to you.


Aquarius (January 20-February 18) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

February 1st – Venus moves into your 1st house of identity. Time for a makeover! This could be an actual makeover, a spiritual makeover, or even just a makeover for your flute! If it is an actual makeover, invest in a new jacket or pair of shoes. If it is a spiritual makeover, take some time to reflect on what truly makes you happy and explore possible ways to bring more of that into your life. If it is a makeover for your flute, buy a couple of snazzy new accessories or a bright new flute bag.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. Something new and very important is about to enter your life around the time of this New Moon. You may have purchased something under the influence of Venus that has transformed your life. This will spark new opportunities for growth and happiness in the future.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 2nd house of income. You will be tempted to apply to a new job when the Sun changes signs. Make sure to read all of the fine print and consider any potential pitfalls in connection with this position. Neptune often gives us rose-colored glasses to hide the icebergs under the water. Proceed with caution.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 1st house of identity. This is a great time to share your hopes, wishes, and dreams with others. You have spent a lot of time this month reexamining what is truly meaningful for you. Now is the time to communicate your needs to the people who can help you the most. Do you need more time in your schedule to practice? What can you delegate to others to make this possible?

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. You may be making the final payment on a loan or paying off your credit card after making a large purchase (perhaps a new flute?). Congrats! Your carefully crafted savings plan was indeed successful. Enjoy your new purchase.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will be spending a lot of time in the practice room this month, Pisces. Make your space as comfortable and inviting as possible. Practice all of your favorite pieces! Find new ways to approach these old gems from a different perspective.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You will likely be practicing new repertoire around the time of this New Moon. Preparing for an upcoming performance or competition? These pieces may be a bit challenging. Break them down into smaller, easier to master components.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 1st house of identity. New Year’s Day has already come and gone, but your “New Year, New Me” moment will actually happen when the Sun moves signs. Be careful not to jump into any new ventures too quickly, though. Neptune is also in this house is giving us rose-colored glasses. Something new may seem like a great opportunity but may also come with a few strings attached. Do not ignore the strings.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Do you have a flute blog yet? This is a really good time to share some of your practice tips on your blog. What works for you? How do you structure your time? Do you have a favorite technique for breaking down difficult repertoire?

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. There may be a toxic relationship in your environment that needs to change or even end around the time of this Full Moon. Having miscommunications with a music colleague? This would be a good time to have an honest chat and air out any grievances. Be honest yet respectful.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be having a great time in rehearsals at the beginning of the month. Intonation is on point. Cues are smooth and easy to communicate. Everything is flowing between yourself and your colleagues. Enjoy it! Try to host a performance this month while Venus is in your camp.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be asked to sub for a local ensemble or serve as a judge for chair placements at a high school band program. This will be a fun opportunity that may open new doors in the future.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. You may be spending some time in the practice room when the Sun moves signs. You will definitely find yourself in the zone under the influence of Neptune. A practice session intended to last 1-hour may turn into a 2-hour inspirational wander down musical Never-Never Land. Enjoy this time!

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 11th house of groups and communities. This is a great time to schedule sectionals with your flute section. With Mercury going direct, you will be able to clean up any strange problems with intonation, unclear cues, or any other difficult passages identified in rehearsals. Communications will be smooth and everybody will likely be on the same page. Work it!

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. A work responsibility is about to end or, more likely, be redelegated to someone else. You just cannot find the time to do everything for everyone. Do you really need to participate in that committee? Are you scheduled to complete trainings that seem to take too much of your time? Reschedule!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 10th house of career goals. You may need to do a bit of soul searching at the beginning of the month when it comes to your career. What do you want to be when you grow up? Be honest with yourself! What makes you happy?

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. A brand-new career opportunity will present itself around the time of this Full Moon. Have you applied to a job recently? You may be invited for an interview or audition. The Universe will help you land this position! Be the flute master you know you can be.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 11th house of groups and communities. You will be busy in rehearsals when the Sun moves signs. Be careful not to create any drama with your colleagues out of thin air. You may all be a bit stressed but Neptune can invent stories that just are not true. Try to de-stress whenever you can.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 10th house of career goals. If you can hold off scheduling any interviews until after Mercury goes direct, you will be in a much better position to communicate with your committees. Be honest in all of your interview responses. The panel will appreciate your honesty and thoughtful point of view.

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. Have you been working on a creative project that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere? Take a step back around the time of this Full Moon to reevaluate your work. Are you composing a new piece of music? Do you really need that second movement? Use this time to reevaluate and revise.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 9th house of travel and higher education. You will spend a lot of time daydreaming about your next adventure abroad. Although travel may not be in the cards at the moment, you may be inspired to start planning a trip abroad. Where would you most like to visit? Vienna? Paris? Florence? Think big and start compiling a budget.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 9th house of travel and higher education. You may begin a new course of study around the time of the New Moon. If you are dreaming of taking a trip to another country, this would be a good time to study the language. There are plenty of good language learning apps out there. Give one a try!

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 10th house of career goals. Take some time to reflect on where you are going vs. where you want to be in your career. What type of job would you like to have in the next 5-10 years? What skills do you still need to master to get there? Think realistically about these goals, as Neptune may have you daydreaming about a life that may not be attainable on your timeline or under the current restrictions. For example, touring the World as a soloist may not be in the cards at the moment, but you may think about ways to host socially-distant performances in various parks this summer.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 9th house of travel and higher education. This is a great time to practice your new language skills with others. Try writing a letter in French and send it to a friend! You may also be inspired to learn more about your dream destination. Talk to friends who have traveled there. What are the must-see attractions?

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. Something in your environment will need to change around the time of this Full Moon. Are you planning home or studio renovations? Remove any outdated electronics and any broken or unnecessary furniture. How can you create more space in your studio?

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 8th house of banking and finance. This is a great place for Venus to be if you are looking to make a large purchase or save money for a future purchase in the coming months (a new flute, perhaps?). Venus will help you attract the resources you need to make your purchase faster. This may be in the form of a gift or a loan. Consult your financial advisor for the best way use the resources available to you.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 8th house of banking and finance. Good news! You may receive yet another contribution to your big purchase around the time of this New Moon. Perhaps a wealthy relative has heard that you are scrimping and saving to buy a new flute and wants to help you out. Again, this may be in the form of a loan. Make sure you have a practical plan for paying this back before accepting. And in true Cancer style, send a beautiful thank you card and/or gift to show your gratitude.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 9th house of travel and higher education. This is a great time to daydream about adventures you would like to take abroad once travel restrictions are removed. Would you like to attend a symphony performance in Vienna or attend a masterclass in Paris? Dream big and start planning your ideal trip.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 8th house of banking and finance. This is the perfect time to chat with your financial advisor about a savings or payment plan for your large purchase. Remember to consider all of your other financial obligations when creating a reasonable budget. Listen carefully to their advice and take note of any risks before laying down the plastic.

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 3rd house of communication. Are you working on a book or an article about flute playing? Something in your writing may need to be revised around the time of the Full Moon. Spend some serious time proofreading. Do your chapters connect to your original theme or have you veered off-topic? Are your opinions supported by facts and musical examples? Revise what can be revised and streamline what can be streamlined.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 7th house of relationships. This is a great placement for social Leos! Venus will encourage you to spend a lot of time chatting with fun flute friends far and wide. Strike up a conversation with your closest friends, colleagues, and other flutists that you find interesting. Start a group chat! Are there any opportunities to collaborate in the future?

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 7th house of relationships. You will likely make a new friend around the time of this New Moon. Some of your other connections may have introduced you to this person. You may find that you both share many of the same views and ambitions. A collaborative project (such as a recital) may even be on the horizon. Schedule a coffee meeting (virtually or otherwise).

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 8th house of banking and finance. You may be doing your taxes when the Sun changes signs. Make sure to double check your numbers (preferably with a financial advisor). Neptune may lead you to think that your refund will be larger than expected. Proceed with caution. Cross all of the t’s and dot the i’s.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 7th house of relationships. Any miscommunications with friends or colleagues at the beginning of the month may begin to work themselves out when Mercury goes direct. Have heart-to-heart chats with these individuals at the end of the month. Clear the air over coffee.

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. You may be walking away from a job around the time of this Full Moon. Have you recently accepted another position elsewhere? If so, you may be submitting a letter of notice to your current supervisor. Keep it 100 and exit as professionally as possible.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 6th house of daily work and health routines. It will be smooth sailing at work at the beginning of the month. All of your to-dos will get done quickly and easily. All of your projects will proceed as scheduled. All of your rehearsals, sectionals, and meetings will go as planned and may even be enjoyable. You will feel like Super Flutist!

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You may find yourself with a new, exciting opportunity at work around the time of this New Moon. Has your conductor assigned you to play principal flute on one of your favorite works? Have you been asked to judge a scholarship competition or participate on an audition panel? This will give you some great experience and a wonderful new line on your CV.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 7th house of relationships. You may be doing a bit of networking with your flute friends and any potential new connections when the Sun moves signs. Look for any opportunities to collaborate but beware of fake friends. Neptune sometimes clouds our judgement. Somebody may smile to your face but talk smack behind your back.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. This is a great time to email anyone you need to email and return any phone calls that you have been avoiding. Clear that inbox. If there are any pending situations awaiting approval to move forward, now is the time to start bugging others to get ‘er done!

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 1st house of identity. Do a bit of soul searching about some of your most important projects around the time of this Full Moon. Chances are good that you had hoped to host a recital in the coming weeks that will likely need to be canceled or rescheduled. Do not panic. This could be a good opportunity to program new repertoire at your next performance.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 5th house of creativity and joy. It is always a great time when the planet of joy is in the house of joy. Have a good time this month! Things have likely been quite serious for you over the past few weeks. Play the repertoire that makes you happy. Listen to the music that you love. Watch the performances that inspire you.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may start working on a creative project around the time of this New Moon. Have you always wanted to try your hand at composing? Now is a good time. Start with a few notes or an interesting melody and see where it goes from there.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 6th house of daily work and health routines. You may be working on a project at work that seems too good to be true. Well, with Neptune in the mix, your intuition may be spot on. Do what you can on your end but beware that others may not share your insight or work ethic. Move forward cautiously.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 5th house of creativity and joy. This is a great time to chat with other composers about your work. Get their advice about the compositional process and, if brave enough, share some of your initial drafts. Play through your piece – Does it work? Can you spice it up with dynamics or ornaments? Get creative!

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 12th house of behind-the-scenes activities. Something you have been working on in the practice room may need to be abandoned during the time of this Full Moon. You have broken down this work, practiced it slowly, in chunks, backwards, and upside down to no avail. It is okay to move on to a piece that works better for you! You can revisit this work again some time down the road.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 4th house of home and family. You will be spending a lot of quality time at home with your loved ones this month. Keep your practice sessions brief and find creative ways to incorporate your family into your routine. Ask them to serve as the judges for a mock audition or try giving them beginning flute lessons.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 4th house of home and family. You may be adding a new piece of furniture or equipment to your home studio. Upgrading your recording gear? Or perhaps soundproofing your space so you can practice when your loved ones are otherwise preoccupied (or sleeping)? Do what you can to revamp your practice space. It will be a wonderful breath of fresh air.

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 5th house of creativity and joy. You may find yourself in the zone a lot when the Sun moves signs. You could schedule a brief 30-minute practice session only to find yourself knee deep in your favorite repertoire 3 hours later. If time is an issue, be sure to set a timer. Neptune will take you on wonderful journeys through your imagination but does not understand schedules or other priorities.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 4th house of home and family. If you have been avoiding any difficult conversations with your family members, wait until Mercury goes direct to approach them. They may not be happy with your practice schedule or, more likely, sick of listening to Peter and the Wolf excerpts played over, and over, and over, AND OVER again. Compromises and solutions will be much easier to work out when Mercury goes direct.

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 11th house of groups and communities. You may be calling it quits when it comes to one of your performing groups, at least for now. Has your season been unexpected canceled? Or does the new rehearsal schedule not work with your other groups and/or responsibilities. It is okay to step back. Try not to burn any bridges in the process.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 3rd house of communications. This is a great time to post on your flute blog. What do you love about the flute and/or flute playing? Who are your favorite composers? Do you have any cherished practice techniques? Share your ideas with a broader internet audience.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 3rd house of communications. You may be starting a new writing project around the time of this New Moon. Can you convert an idea from your flute blog into an article, or possibly even a book? Start with an outline and gather a few bits of related research or quotes. Get to writing!

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 4th house of home and family. Your focus will shift onto your family when the Sun changes signs. Spend some quality time with them during this time, but make sure to keep track of time. Neptune sometimes takes us on an adventure to Never Never Land, leaving our other responsibilities in the dust. This is a good thing in moderation but try avoid making it the norm.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 3rd house of communications. It is always great when planet of communications is chilling out in the house of communications. Spend some focused time working on your book. Reach out to other writers to get their take on the structure of your writing. Share your ideas with trusted flute colleagues. Blog, blog, blog! Write about those wacky ideas that you think nobody will understand. Chances are there is somebody out there that could use your advice.

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 10th house of career goals. Be honest with yourself about the direction of your career around the time of this Full Moon. Are you on track with your original goals? Do you still want to be an orchestra musician or have your priorities changed? Are you pursuing a career that doesn’t really interest you anymore? Reprioritize and create a clearer path forward. Eliminate goals that no longer interest you.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

February 1st – Venus moves into your 2nd house of income. This is a great time to attract a brand-new job with a pay increase. Search the job boards. Are there any new opportunities out there that would be well-suited to your unique talents and abilities? Go for it! Update your CV and polish your excerpts. Something great is about to happen.

February 11th – A New Moon appears in your 2nd house of income. Your job search is about to pay off and you will likely be offered an interview and eventually a job offer. Congrats! Gather your courage to negotiate an increase in salary, if possible. This is a wonderful new opportunity for you. Make the most out of it!

February 18th – The Sun joins Neptune in your 3rd house of communications. You will be writing up a storm when the Sun changes signs. Neptune will ask you to do a bit of freewriting. Have you ever tried your hand at poetry? Can you write poems about the flute or the world of performing? Experiment with more creative types of writing.

February 20th – Mercury goes direct in your 2nd house of income. You may need to write a letter of resignation at your current position. If you would rather stay with your organization, however, this is also a really good time to have a chat with your supervisor about retention agreements. What can they offer you to stay at your current position? Are there promotional opportunities available? Can you negotiate a pay raise? Now is the time to ask for what you want.

February 27th – A Full Moon appears in your 9th house travel and higher education. A trip that you may have been planning with likely need to be postponed or canceled during the time of this Full Moon. Try not to lose your cool! This can be rescheduled for another date. How can you make your adventure even better in the future?
