Dr. G’s June Flute Horoscopes

The big news this month is that Mars will be going retrograde at the end of June until the end of August (aka. the Summer of Mars Retrograde). Whenever Mars goes retrograde, your energy for basically everything is zapped, often leading to frustration and angry, Aries-like temper tantrums. Knowing this ahead of time will help you come up with a reasonable plan to chill out during the summer months. Go to the beach. Head to the library. Do some yoga. Take a few Alexander Technique lessons. Do whatever you can to give yourself a break this summer. Wait until after Labor Day to start your engines again. Until then, relax and practice on!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

The month begins with Venus in your 2nd house of income, helping you to attract more money into your life. Wedding season is upon us, after all, making this a great time to organize a group to perform at weddings. Venus is the goddess of love – perfect for wedding gigs! If you live near the beach or a winery, design some beautiful business cards to pass along to wedding planners, hotels, and local businesses to get the word out about your group. All month Jupiter will be in a trine with Neptune between your 6th and 10th houses. Your career is booming and your intuition is on fire. Search for performing gigs that speak to you. Is there a summer orchestra that is recruiting local musicians for festival performance. Go ahead and audition! Have you been invited to teach at a summer music camp? Pack your bags! If your health has not been great lately, this is also a good opportunity to heal. Practice Alexander Technique and tune in to how you may be misusing yourself. Mercury moves into your 2nd house of income on June 13th, helping you advertise your new performing group far and wide. This will inevitably attract more opportunities for paid gigs around your area. A New Moon in your 1st house on the same day (June 13th) puts the spotlight on you, making you quite popular during this time. You may find yourself wanting a makeover. This is a good time to shop for new, wedding appropriate, multi-functional yet stunning, performance outfits. Remember: Concert Black does not need to be Concert Blah. Venus moves into your 3rd house of communications on June 14th. This is a great day to blog about something that interests you about the flute. Write about some of your experiences as a wedding performer. Your finances are again in the spotlight on June 22nd, when the Sun enters your 2nd house of income, followed by a Full Moon in your 8th house of banking, loans, and joint finances on June 28th. This indicates that you are definitely raking in the chips with various performing and teaching responsibilities, but instead of just splurging on concert tickets to a great summer show, you will be saving your money in the bank (perhaps for a new instrument purchase later this summer). Mars will be going retrograde on June 27th which will zap your energy for the next couple of months. This will happen in your 9th house of travel. Try not to fly off the handle if you have travel delays or if vacation plans are changed unexpectedly. Go with the flow and breathe.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

All month there is a trine between Jupiter and Neptune from your 5th to your 9th houses. These two houses deal with fun and travel. With summer just around the corner, this is a great time to plan a trip. Are you planning on attending the National Flute Association Convention this summer in Orlando? Book your tickets now! Guess what is also in Orlando? Disneyland and Harry Potter land. Who says you can’t have a little fun in the sun while learning about the flute? Take advantage of this summer trip location. On June 13th Mercury joins Venus in your 1st house, making you quite popular. This would be a great time to kick off summer with a low-key recital. Play a few crowd pleasers that your audience will enjoy (Carmen Fantasie, Chaminade Concertino, Flight of the Bumblebee, etc). On the same day, there will be a New Moon in your 12th house of behind the scenes projects. Retreat into the shadows after your recital. You will need a bit of quiet time to yourself to work on a writing project or perform research for a top secret project. Venus moves into your money house on June 14th, bringing you a wonderful financial gift or bonus (thanks, Grandma!). Treat yourself to some wacky new flute item from the Flute World Accessories menu. On June 22nd, the Sun moves into your sign, giving you yet another Beyonce moment. The spotlight is on you! You may find yourself giving a lecture or hosting a masterclass – Let your ideas shine. Mars will be going retrograde on June 27th where it will stay for the next 2 months in your 8th house of finances. This is a great time to reexamine how much energy you are putting into your finances. Are you stressing out over nothing? How much can you automate in terms of loan repayments, bill payments, and savings? Try not to get frustrated with your finances – Keep calm and save on!  On June 28 there will be a Full Moon in your 7th house of relationships. There may be a toxic relationship in your life that has been wreaking havoc on your creativity. Let it go. Replace not so good relationships with new friends and colleagues that lift your energy and inspire you to be your best.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

This month there will be a trine between Jupiter in your 4th house of home and family and Neptune in your 8th house of finance. You may be buying or renovating a house at this time. The good news is that the bank will be hooking you up with the capital to make your dreams come true. Finding a great home studio space is very important to you and you might be inspired to redecorate your studio area to fit your needs. Perhaps you are setting up a gazebo in your backyard that could also serve as the perfect setting for summer evening flute choir recitals or outdoor masterclasses. The Universe is supporting you so dream big! On June 13th, Mercury joins Venus in your 12th house of behind the scenes activities. This indicates that you will be writing up a storm. Have you started a flute blog yet? This would be the perfect planetary energy to set up a platform and share your thoughts with the internet. You will need to lock yourself in your office with your computer, so make sure that your environment is stress-free and super organized. This will make the writing process move a bit smoother. There will also be a New Moon on the same day in your 11th house of communities and groups. Share your writings with a variety of online groups and Facebook forums. It is likely that you will find like-minded flutists who really connect with your ideas. On June 14th, Venus will be moving into your sign. Do something nice for yourself on this day. Practice outside and enjoy the wide open stage that nature offers. Take your flute into the shop for a clean, oil, and adjust while you relax at the spa (or at the golf course). The Sun moves into your 12th house of behind the scenes projects on June 22nd, putting the spotlight on the practice room. It’s time to roll up your sleeves and get cracking on some new repertoire. Summer is a great time to get ahead on your preparations for the upcoming Fall recital season. Mars will be going retrograde on June 27th in your 7th house of relationships where he will stay until the end of August. This is a difficult house for Mars as the retrograde will likely suck out any energy you have to socialize with others. This will be difficult for you as Leos typically love a good party. Try to avoid extended and/or additional rehearsals or unnecessary performance after-parties during this time. Mars can be a bit hot-headed when it is retrograde and you don’t want to be engaging in any petty arguments with your fellow musicians out of nowhere. Wait until Labor Day weekend to host a big summer blowout and save this time to party with all of your friends and colleagues.  A Full Moon occurs in your 6th house of daily work and health routines on June 28th, encouraging you to revamp your exercise routine. As the warmer weather looms closers, this is a great time to add some swimming into your workout routine (which is also a good way to work on air control). Visit your local lake or swimming pool on this day and enjoy the first few days of the summer season.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

There will be a trine between Jupiter and Neptune from your 3rd to your 7th houses for the entire month of June. The 3rd house rules communications and the 7th house rules friendships. This indicates that you might be pouring your energy into a number of speaking or writing projects that will help attract new acquaintances into your life. Are you hosting a lecture or masterclass in June? Are you planning to start your own YouTube channel? You will be quite popular and will likely meet like-minded individuals that are inspired by your ideas. On June 13th, Mercury will be joining Venus is your 11th house of groups and communities. Your connections with new collegues could quite possibly lead you to connect to new groups either online or with performing groups within your community. You will still be quite popular and will have a great time making a variety of new connections. This is also supported on the very same day with a New Moon in your 10th house of careers, suggesting that all of this networking will enhance your careers in significant ways. If you hear about an upcoming audition, go for it. If a new friend wants to collaborate on a recital, start planning and rehearsing. All of these things will help you take your career to the next level. On June 14th, Venus moves into your 12th house of behind the scenes activities. Take a breather on this day. Lock yourself in the practice room and only play music that speaks to your heart. Better yet – spend most of your day improvising. Let any burried emotions come out as a stream spectacular runs or melancholy melodies. The Sun moves into your 11th house on June 22nd. There is a good chance that you will connect with a very important new performing ensemble. If you have an audition on this day, you will no doubt shine brighter than ever before. Play it out! Mars will be going retrograde on June 27th where it will stay for the next 2 months. This is occuring in your 6th house of the daily work and health routine. Your energy will be zapped during this time. Remove any unnecessary committments from your schedule to avoid burnout (do you really need that extra rehearsal?). If you exercise regularly, you might consider adding yoga or meditation to your daily routine to take edge off of any frustration you may be experiencing (Mars does not like to be retrograde. It’s like putting a lion in a small cage). The month ends with a Full Moon in your 5th house of children and fun on June 28th. Put your flute in it’s case on this day and go to a concert. Find new inspiration by listening and enjoying a beautiful piece of music.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Throughout June, there will be a trine between Jupiter and Neptune in your 2nd house of income and your 6th house of the daily work and health routine. This is a great time to find creative ways to earn a little bit of extra cash by adding gigs here and there in your schedule. I suggest partnering up with a Gemini who will be running the wedding gig circuit this summer. Flute quartet, anyone? On June 13th, Mercury will join Venus in your 10th house of careers. This is a great time to seek advice from your flute teacher (past or present) regarding alternative ways to proceed in your career. You may have been groomed to be a performer but wish to turn your attention onto teaching or writing. They will help point you in the right direction. There will also be a New Moon on the same day in your 9th house of travel. Time to plan a trip! Purchase your tickets for the National Flute Association Convention in August and, maybe, invest in a couple of passes to Disneyland or Universal Studios during your stay. Flute and Fun! Venus moves into your 11th house on June 14th, helping you to connect with new groups or communities. If there is an audition for a summer orchestra on the horizon, go for it! The planets are supporting you during this time. On June 22nd the Sun will be moving into your 10th house of careers. You might have an ”aha!” moment on this day when it comes to your career. Is there a step that you need to take to move your career in a new direction (Signing up for a class? Attending a lecture?)? Go ahead and take that step on this day. Mars will be going retrograde on June 27th in your 5th house of children and fun. This will effect the amount of energy you will have when encountering children or when acting childlike yourself. Take it easy for the next couple of months. Have fun, yes. But do not plan to stay at the carnival from opening until close. You will not be a happy camper by the end of the day. If you attend concerts (or if you perform in a concert), enjoy your time on stage, but try not to stay for the after party. You will be exhausted and not in the mood for frivolities. The month ends with a Full Moon in your 4th house of home and family on June 28th. Spend some time with your family on this particular weekend. Go to the lake or have a barbeque in backyard. The flute can wait until Monday.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

All month there will be a trine between Jupiter and Neptune in your 1st house and 5th house. The 1st house is all about you and the 5th house has to do with children, fun, and joy. This is a time of healing and getting in touch with your inner child. What is it about playing the flute that brings you joy? How can you add more of this into your life and how can you add more of your own personal touch into your musical activities? What is your trademark? Ask yourself some of these question during this transit and explore new ways to incorprate more of what you love doing into your life. If performing brings you joy, find more groups to perform with. If writing is your passion, schedule some quiet time in your weekly schedule to do a bit of writing every day. On June 13th, Mercury joins Venus in your 9th house of travel. This is a great time to not only plan a trip, but also to connect to others that will also be traveling to the same place (the NFA Convention, perhaps). Scorpios have a difficult time socializing, so setting up dedicated times to connect with friends old and new during your trip will help you manage both your time and energy. There will also be a New Moon in your 8th house of finance on the very same day. If you are worried about how much this trip will cost, start putting away a few bucks each week to pay for the trip (and then some) this summer. You never know what cool new flute stuff you will find in the exhibit room! On June 14th Venus moves into your 10th house of careers. Somebody will be putting in a good word for you that just may connect you to a wonderful new opportunity in your work sector. An audition, perhaps? Or maybe a new teaching opportunity? Jump on whatever the Universe presents to you on this day. The Sun will be moving into your 9th house of travel on June 22nd. This is the best day to purchase airline tickets and begin to plan your summer travel adventure (remember to leave some time for fun!). Mars will be going retrograde in your 4th house of home and family beginning on June 27th where it will stay for the next 2 months. Your family will be getting on your last nerve during this time. Try to retreat from any familly drama and hide in your practice room. You do not have the energy to deal with family squabbles during these next 2 months and it is better to use what energy you do have for your music-making endeavors. The month ends on June 28th will a Full Moon in your 3rd house of communications. You are likely finishing up a writing project. This is a good day to proofread your work and market your writings to a publishing house or a large online community. Everybody will be reading your every word so make sure that your thoughts are clear and your research is solid.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

The month begins with a trine between Jupiter (your ruler) in the 12th house and Neputune in your 4th house. The 12th house rules behind the scenes projects and Neptune rules your home and family. You will be practicing a lot at home this month so make sure you find a perfect, comfortable practice nook where your family will not interrupt you too much. This is a great time to work on interesting new repertoire or prepare for any summer masterclass performances. On June 13th Mercury joins Venus in your 8th house of finances. You might be applying for a loan during this time (perhaps for the purchase of a new flute). Mercury will help you communicate quite effectively with any bank personell or instrument retailers to iron out all of the details before making your purchase. On the same day, there will be a New Moon in your 7th house of relationships. This indicates that you will be making new friends and business connections during this time. Connect with other flutists either locally or online and share some of your ideas. You might even find yourself setting up times to collaborate with these new friends on recital or chamber music performances. Venus moves into your 9th house of travel on June 14th, making this the perfect day to plan a summer vacay. Purchase your tickets for the NFA convention in Orlando on this day and maybe check out the discounts available at Disneyland or Universal Studios while you are there! The Sun joins Mercury in your 8th house of finances on June 22nd. If you had been working on a loan document earlier in the month, this will be the day that the loan is either approved or denied. Make sure you are prepared to take the next steps based on this decision so it does not catch you by surprise. Mars will be going retrograde in your 3rd house of communications on June 27th, where it will stay for the next couple of months. You are not in the mood to socialize during this time, and, if you have a flute blog, may be suffering from writer’s block. Do not try to force communications during this time as Mars has a tendency to become frustrated when any action is stalled. Turn your attention to performing and revist writing after Mars goes direct in late August. The month ends with a Full Moon in your 2nd house of income on June 28th, indicating that you will either sign up for a few new gigs during this time to bring in some extra cash (it is wedding season – do you have a group that would like to perform?) or perhaps recruit a handful of new students. Put this extra income in your bank account and save it for a rainy summer day.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

All month there will be a trine between Jupiter and Neptune in your 3rd and 11th houses (respectively). The 3rd house deals with communications and the 11th house is all about groups and communities. Time to put pen to the paper, Capricorn (or, more appropriately, keyboard to social media). This is a great time to blog. Set up your flute blog or YouTube page and flood the internet with creative ideas pertaining to the flute. Share your posts with other flutists and flute groups on social media (Facebook has a number of active Flute Forum groups that really love new ideas from fellow flutists). If you have always wanted to write an article for Flute Talk, this is also a great time to draft something and submit it for publication consideration. On June 13th Mercury joins Venus in your 7th house of relationships. You will make a few new friends on this day. These individuals will really dig what you have to say and will likely want to collaborate on larger projects (panel discussions at conferences, for example). Connect with these new friends and have fun working on new projects. On the same day, there will be a New Moon in your 6th house of the daily work and health routine. Revamp your schedule so that it works a bit better for you. If you are, in fact, asked to work on new projects, be sure to schedule rehearsals at times that work well with your current workload and energy. Do not try to cram too much into your day-to-day. It is summer, after all. Venus moves into your 8th house of finances on June 14th, bringing you some good news about a grant or other funding opportunities that you applied to last month. Congrats! The Sun moves into your 7th house of relationships on June 22nd, helping you to connect with another musician with very important connections for your professional development. Arrange a joint recital or masterclass with this individual to pool your combined interests and boost your studio recruitment numbers. Mars goes retrograde on June 27th in your 2nd house of income. Don’t freak out about money during the next 2 months. You may be frustrated with your money situation, feeling that you cannot treat yourself to the things you want. This is a great time to just save your money and avoid any major purchases. The month ends with a Full Moon in your sign on June 28th. All of these new friends and opportunities will see you wanting to reinvent yourself. You are not the flutist that you were at the beginning of the month – You are better! Embrace all of the things in your life that give you creative energy and cut ties to anything that does not bring you up to a higher level. Focus on the good!

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Throughout the month of June, there will be a trine between Jupiter and Neptune in your 10th house of careers and your 2nd house of income. This is a great time to focus on your ultimate career goals and explore new ways to increase your income doing the things that you love. Go after that promotion! Have you been performing with a community orchestra and often find yourself wishing you could move up to the big leauges? Check the job boards and audition for that professional orchestra that you may think is beyond your capabilities. You just may suprise yourself... You ready to take that next step in your career. On June 13th, Mercury joins Venus in your 6th house of work and health. Since Mercury is the planet of communication, you may need to send an email to person or a group that is wreaking havoc on your schedule. You just do not have the time in your life for this committment and you have likely put off backing out because you do not want any hard feelings. Use the power of Mercury to smooth over this email. Chances are everything will be just fine and your schedule will lighten a bit (which is also good for your health). On the same day, there will be a New Moon in your 5th house of children and fun. Put your flute away on this day and just have some fun! Go out to a summer concert and find new inspiration in a brilliant performance by a local (or not so local) orchestra. Or, if you cannot get away, host a masterclass for some of your younger students. Ask them to prepare some lighter works or popular tunes and spend some time teaching them how to improvise. When Venus moves into your 7th house of relationships on June 14th, you will likely make a connection with a new collegue. Collaborate with this new friend on creative project as you will likely bring complimentary skills to the table (a new flute composition, perhaps?). The Sun moves into your 6th house of the daily work and health routine on June 22nd. This puts a spotlight on your work area. As you get your schedule ironed out, you may find yourself with convenient opportunities to accept new gigs or fit new students into your schedule. Mars will be going retrograde for the next 2 months beginning on June 27th in your sign. The theme of the month seems to be examining how you use your time and energy. Mars retrograde will help uncover everything in your life that drains your energy and inspire you to cut some ties. You may become frustrated by some of these things. You may become angry with yourself for letting these things manifest into your life. Try instead to take it easy and learn from your past mistakes. Say goodbye to Energy Vampire forever! The month ends with a Full Moon in your 12th house of behind the scenes projects on June 28th. This is a great time to retreat from the hustle and bustle and spend some good, quality time in the practice room learning new repertoire.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Throughout the month of June, there will be a trine between Jupiter and Neptune (your ruler) from your 1st to your 9th houses. These houses are all about you and who you are in the world and travel. You will be inspired to expand your horizons. You may have been feeling somewhat bored with your surroundings lately. You wish to experience how music impacts different cultures in different cities far away. This is a great time to put together grants to study music in another country. Look into Fullbright opportunities and begin to form a clear project during this time. On June 13th, Mercury joins Venus in your 5th house of children and play. There is a very good chance that you have agreed to host a masterclass at a summer music camp. You will have a great time and these students will really understand and embrace the lessons that you have to offer. A New Moon also appears in your 4th house of home and family on the same day (June 13th). You are beginning to consider either moving to a new place or revamping your studio space so it works a bit better for you. You need to freshen up your environment in some way and this planetary energy will help you plan out some necessary rennovations. On June 14th, Venus moves into the 6th house of daily work and health routines. Take a critical look at your daily schedule. Are your days filled with rehearsing and teaching or do other needless distractions clog up your calendar. Try to find creative ways to do more of what you love and less of what does not really serve your best interests. The Sun moves into your 5th house of children and play on June 22nd. This is a great day to put the flute away and attend a concert. Find new inspiration by attending a chamber music performance in your local area. Mars will be going retrograde on June 27th in your 12th house of behind the scenes activities, where it will stay for the next 2 months. This is not a great house for Mars to be in as Mars is all about action and the 12th house is all about retreating and working on things in solitude. When Mars is retrograde, you will find yourself lacking the energy to practice and may become frustrated. Take it easy. Instead of trying to squeeze in marathon practice sessions, break your time into smaller, more focused practice chunks to conserve energy. The month ends with a Full Moon in your 11th house of groups and communities on June 28th.  This is a good time to audition for new ensembles in and around your community. Is there a local flute choir that needs a new alto flute? Go ahead and audition! This group will be a wonderful breath of fresh air for your flute playing.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

All month there is a trine between Jupiter and Neptune in your 8th and 12th houses. This is a great time to research and apply to any (and all) grant opportunities to either start your own business, expand your studio practice, write a book, attend a conference or important music festival, or purchase a new instrument. The 8th house rules finances (including loans and monies coming to you from outside sources) while the 12th house rules behind the scenes projects. These applications will not be the easy, fill out an online form and you are done, processes. Instead, you will need to put very convincing packets together, detailing your current research, your proposed research, where you will publish your findings, and all of the expenses that you will incur during your trip. Sounds like a lot of work, right? It will be, but you absolutely driven during this time to make it happen. On June 13th, Mercury will be joining Venus in your 4th house of home and family. You have likely been designing a remodel of your studio space and, with a very specific idea in mind, will need to communicate with others to turn your vision into a reality. This may be with cleaners, construction workers, vendors, or even just a few very helpful family members. With Venus there, you will be able to get everybody on your side with ease. On the same day (June 13th) there is a New Moon in your 3rd house of communications. You are inspired on this day to write a book, article, flute blog, or even to record a video or two for your YouTube channel. Being an Aries, you are super confident about what you have to say and this New Moon will show you the perfect venue to say it. Venus will be moving into your 5th house of children and creativity on June 14th, inspiring you to take a day to improvise. Put away the Mozart and the Taffanel and Gaubert and just play from your heart. You will be amazed at what you can create and might even be inspired to write it down on some manuscript paper. The Sun moves into your 4th house of home and family on June 22nd, putting the spotlight again on that renovation project. Take a trip to Ikea with your family on this day and pick out some new decorations for your studio. They will really appreciate being involved in the process. Mars will be going retrograde beginning on June 27th in your 11th house of groups and communities. Your energy to rehearse with summer orchestras will be very low. It is not that you do not wish to create music with these groups – It is more likely that you are overwhelmed and simply do not have time or energy to pour into performing groups right now. Take the summer off (if possible). You will have tons of energy in the Fall for performances. The month ends with a Full Moon on June 28th in your 10th house of careers. You are craving a new direction in your career. Would you like to shift your attention to teaching? Have you thought about going back to school for a musicology degree? This is a perfect opportunity to explore some of these options.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This month there is a wonderful trine between Jupiter and Neptune from your 7th to 11th houses. This is perfect energy for making new friends in new groups that will really inspire you to collaborate on bigger and better projects. If you have been on the fence about auditioning for other orchestras in and around your community, the Universe seems to be asking you to go for it because the people you are likely to meet will help propel your career forward. Everybody likes making new friends, right? On June 13th, Mercury will be joining Venus in your 3rd house of communications. The planet of communications is in the house of communications! This indicates that you will be writing up a storm on your flute blog or, if you are a college student, getting a good head start on your thesis work for the upcoming school year. You may also be writing a book. Mercury will help you put pen to paper in brilliant and creative ways. Also on June 13th, there will be a New Moon in your 2nd house of income. You will be attracting new students and/or new performance opportunities into your life that will give your income a momentary boost. It is wedding season, after all! Drop your Gemini friends a line and see if they would like to start a group to play at local weddings this summer. Venus moves into your 4th house of home and family on June 14th. Put your flute away on this day and enjoy a good, old fashion family summer barbeque. Mozart can wait. Your family wants to hang out with you and talk about all of your performing adventures. The Sun moves into your 3rd house of communications on June 22nd, shining a light on these wonderful writing projects you have been working on all month. This may be the day that you find a publisher to market your ideas to for a book publication. This could also be the day that you launch your new YouTube channel. Mars will be going retrograde on June 27th in your 10th house of careers. You will likely become frustrated with your career direction at this time and devoid of energy to discuss your career with others. Don’t panic – This retrograde only lasts until the end of August. Use this time instead to patiently write down your career goals, outlining your most important ambitions, and create a number of project plans with the action steps that you will need to take (after Mars goes direct) to acheive your goals. The month ends with a Full Moon in your 9th house of travel on June 28th. It’s time to plan that summer vacay! Reserve a cabin by the lake where you can relax and still perform your orchestral exerpts for the all of the woodland critters in the forrest (Afternoon of a Faun for an audience of fawns!).

Happy June!
